We'll probably get our server back before too long (no, I'm not getting pinned down more than that ;) ). When we do, I'm going to look at setting up BF2 and PR on it.

Really got two ways we can go with it, depending on how much interest there is.

  1. Low interest = practice server. A map mixture to practice flying, tank engagements, anything that helps. Probably make it a public server but see if we can reserve slots or something similar for THN members.
  2. Moderate to high interest = full game server. We'll need people to see and we'll need, in the meantime, an alternate server (probably [PTG]) to visit so that we're always getting games when we want.

So, the poll... you interested in PR? Vote away!

I'm still nto sure on this one, not sure i fancy a game that seems to be as much hard work as this is. I'm sure if i played a bit more i'd get the hang of it but my 2142 addiction is taking up enough time as it is.:p

PR is certainly a game to play with voice comms on, all the time, and squads that actually play together. If one or neither of those are true then it can suck royally. I'm finding that the PTG server (and, ultimately, our server :) ) is a good place to find that. Not had quite so much luck elsewhere.

PR's got some performance issues at the moment, too, but there's a server-side patch coming shortly (we were hoping for this weekend just gone...) that should resolve a bunch of those.

Try and catch me (and/or Piacular) online, if you can, bob, and we'll do what we can to help out. :)

Haha, I roped Bob into it in the first place!

Unfortunetly the first maps we played were Steel Thunder and Muttrah, then it crashed :(.

The most aggrivating issues, to do with map optimization and officer kits, should be removed by the server side fix which is due out mega soon :).

Our server would be the best server Ronin, for we have the best taste! Why o why, keep in Steel Thunder?! Even if it wasn't laggy, there isn't much fun to be had .

Yeah, I guess. I figure that we'd need a bunch more active people to make the effort for a fully public server worthwhile. Honestly, I'm not expecting more than 8-10 positive or mostly positive responses here as PR is a little more of an acquired taste than your average shooter.

I notice that PR offers a stats/advancement package too but PTG had problems implementing it so they're not using it. We'd probably get major kudos for having stats in play. :)

I also note that aside from the Assault and Secure game type there's an Extraction game type too designed for smaller servers. Personally, I'm a huge fan of the bigger games but I'd rather do a small thing well than a bigger thing half-heartedly.

The game is great, no, scratch that amazing for 0.5 but unfortunatley it has it's issues. Lag being a major part and the maps ranging from great to "Oh crap it's this map". I also play a lot of WoW (Don't piss on me.. Diablo you play 2142, Bob does too, and Piacular suxxors :p) so I don't know if I'll be able to play everyday though I will play pretty often given interest and a lag free server.. :p

Sure thing, Nanor. Not trying to beat people into playing more than they're ready for and not (yet) considering this as a clan endeavour.

I might head on shortly myself. If not, I suggest checking out the PR User Guide for a bunch of info on how PR works and what's different between this and BF2.

If I were to pick my top five points, they'd be:

  • Bullets are lethal. Don't get shot. Corollary is that suppressing fire actually suppresses.
  • Some kits can only be acquired in a squad, and then only from a "supply point" (read "flag", "rally point" or "back of an APC or hummer"). This includes the "Crewman" kit needed to drive or gun an APC or tank.
  • When you do get shot, you'll be bleeding. That gasping sound you hear is you bleeding out. Get a medic. Quick.
  • In the base game type, Assault and Secure (AAS), flags need to be capture in order and in groups. If you don't hold all the flags in a particular group then you can't capture the next flags. Learn to dig in or wait quietly while the other squads do their work.
  • Do not fly anything unless you've practised offline first.

Hope that helps to start with. :)

It looks like my sort of game, and I played a much earlier version with Gibson, but my gametime is limited at the moment, so I won't be on the server much until after the exams. That said, I still manage to squeeze in an hour or so every night (for the time being).

I'm getting pretty into PR, It's a game inwhich you Need to work as a squad to progress in the game. It's alot of fun and I feel it to be much more challenging than BF2 :).

Aye, we had some fun last night on the [PTG] server. With only 6 people per side, we had a squad full of THN or THN affiliates :).

A low player server is so the best way to introduce someone to PR. It was Vibroaxe's first PR night, and I think he liked it (even though he couldn't see the APC I kept hollering at him to SLAM up :D).

I got lost in helo practise on Muttrah City. Was so ashamed of my exploding BH incident I've been making sure I can fly really fast, really low and land at speed. I'll have to write up some pointers on combat landing in Little Birds.

Glad to read you're getting people well introduced, Pia! :)

To be clear, there aren't any bots offline. But at least you get a quiet time to practise flying.

Have the handling on the choppers and jets been tweaked a little? I was starting to get to grips with piloting the BH and gunships, but I think the ease of the 2142 jets has desensitized me again somewhat :( I might take a look at this, but I don't know if I can spare the time to play at the moment. I'm liking the sound of this one-hit kill business, especially with the onus it puts on suppression fire.

When I tried SP there was bots, they had freakin' aimbots too!

I'd be interested in playing PR with you guys, if you let me, and if you can show me the ropes that is :).

Hmmmm still very unsure on this, really enjoyed it at first when there was about 10 people per side, but as it got busier i was just dieing alot. which tbh just bells me off a treat. I don't know the maps well enough and with 30 odd ppl a side every time i appeared from cover i got wasted. which just sucks ass as i had no clue where i was let alone where they were.
