For what it's worth, i always get el-cheapo memory from a local store, memtest it and return it when it has errors. Usually the timings can be tightened on it and most of the time it can be overclocked some, too. When ordering online i would get a brand name though as it's a PITA to return the memory and brand names have better quality control.

Tight timings and quality ram are overrated imho, so don't spend big bucks on memory unless you need high frequencies for a synchronous FSB.
