Hmm, I looked at Rift, but didn't get into the BETA's (there were quite a few)
If I am to get it, and then pick one of these servers... What's the game actually like to play (you can compare it wow if you want to though I only played that up until TBC was released)
It's got enough elements that are similar enough to WoW and other MMOs from both before and after the 12-million behemoth to be... comfortable, easy to pick up and roll with, whilst having enough different to not be stale, and to feel new and exciting.
Compared to WoW, it's got more depth in many places (including how you set up your character's abilities via the "Soul" system; like talent trees, but you get to pick and mix from among eight trees for each class), and more convenience (AoE looting, hells yes). However, being brand new there are still a few things that need to be tweaked, but overall it's a brilliantly well-made game; it's taken five years for a game to pull me away from WoW, but this one managed. That and it's probably the most stable-on-release MMO I've ever seen, hardly any crashes or glaring bugs (just the occaisonal glitched quest, the actual class mechanics work just fine).
All in all, I'm finding it really fun, when I thought I'd finally burned out on the genre, and I'm not the only one; a fairly noticable chunk of the WoW guild moved over to Rift or are at least dabbling in it at the same time as WoW.
