Considering 8gb of DDR3 is 30 quid, I don't feel this to be true - or in the spirit of the thread.

I thought that initially, but reading back to the original post I believe he's replacing 4GB of DDR2 with 8GB of DDR2...
I only got £31 on ebay for my 4gb ddr2 4-4-4-12 (low timings) memory. A bit disappointed, considering it cost me £91 for the new 8gb with slower timings.
The fact you spent any money at all on a DDR2 machine in 2013 astounds me.
When you say decade, I presume you mean 2010 onwards?

Yes I know DDR3 memory is 1/3 the price of DDR2.
I am trying to hold out before upgrading my board with the hope of skipping a generation of memory.
DDR4 is due to come out in the next 12-24 months.
