This is actually pretty amazing and could change a lot in the way we compute, if developed and implemented correctly!

Basically a video about intervining the physical and digital world using a cam and a projector. Check it out.

Interesting, but I'm very much unconvinced. Sorry!

So instead of me just clicking "weather" on my phone, I have to lug around a fucking projector, find a newspaper (which will have to be recycled), and look at it and keep my head steady enough.

What happened to the little HUD style glasses that you used to see everywhere. I think the world will get a bit annoying if you have a projector mounted on everyones heads. I dont mind people wearing glasses!

Heh, no need to apologize, mind the "if developed and implemented correctly" disclaimer I included in my "semi-excited" post ;)

Glasses look like a viable solution, although I imagine focusing on your hand AND the images on your glasses' HUD would be rather difficult and could lead to headaches - they would be at different places hence the lens would have to re-accomodate between the two distances very often. The projector solves this issue.

Also let me remind you that you most likely wouldn't require newspaper to check the weather, you could just make an umbrella sign (for instance) with your fingers and a weather forecast interface would pop up on the wall/sheet of paper in front of you with maps and all.

Theres a problem with mounting stuff on your head that is inherent with eye tracking and suchlike.....

Its all very well that if i turn my eyes to the right that the magical 3d world that youre projecting turns to the left.... but NOW IM NOT LOOKING AT THE SCREEN.

Who gives a shit about interactive weather charts anyway. Theyre usually still bloody wrong. *sigh* :p

I'm still cynical though! I tried doing multi point finger tracking stuff a while ago though just using wiimotes. Was quite fun.

I also dont think that 3d modelling would benefit from having a 3d computer interface. I can appreciate mouse (2d) onto a monitor (2d). My fingers (3d) onto a monitor (2d).... nope. that just doesnt work. Sorry. Maybe its something that I'm just used to / don't like change.

If we had holoprojectors and fingertracking (3D + 3D) I'd be quite happy :) That could work...
