For all you lovely lot who fancy visiting us 'orrible lot in Southampton, there's plans afoot to go see Skyfall on Wednesday (7th). Cineworld is showing it at 8:15, and we're thinking Pilgrim House beforehand (for Chinese-y goodness!), say 6:30 - 7ish.

If you're interested, let me know by the weekend and I'll start booking things.

I believe Mr RichUK will be driving from SW London area if lifts are needed - you'll have to chase him up for that!

IRC/PM me if there's questions!

I'll come. Why not!

Edit - I'm driving from Sunbury, and can happily share lifts with people.

Don't do it. The movie is awful ... I've watched it yesterday and I wish I hadn't ...

its fine. peoples opinions when its just "its shit, dont do it", I tend to ignore unless they can come back with good reasoning and arguments to support their case.
If only laptop manufacturers would do the same :(

It's a bond film, and I'm not 12 years old any more? The last one that was even remotely worth watching was Goldeneye in, what, 1994? 1995?

How are those for arguments?

I don't think the equivalent of "I'm 12 and what is this" is a valid argument as to what about this film isn't good.

I'll have to pass, last train home for me leaves Soton Central at 22:33, which likely won't leave enough time to watch the movie AND get home after :(

Insufficiently good. Casino Royale (2006) was a masterpiece.

I thought it was boring and in everyway, unmemorable. Even if theoretically it were good (and in my opinion it really really wasn't), that would be one 'good' one in the last, what, 5?

I don't think the equivalent of "I'm 12 and what is this" is a valid argument as to what about this film isn't good.

I think you misunderstand the argument. The argument is why would I bother to see this film, when every one in the franchise has been crap since 1995? Excluding Quantum of Solice, which I didn't see for the same reasons I won't bother with this one.

On top of that, the series has the same target market as Lynx, which I also don't buy.

You lot are lambasting Dragon and treating him like he's crazy (though to be fair, he should have given some reasons why he thought the film was bad) for making a statement, which based on over 10 years of evidence, would appear to be the most likely outcome for any Bond film.

History would appear to be strongly on Dragon's side, especially when considering he's actually seen the film.

If you guys could give ANY evidence on why anyone would expect this one to suddenly buck the trend, I'd like to hear it.

Well I'd just like to see it and make my own mind up, plus anything featuring shirtless Daniel Craig won't be too much of a hardship to watch. :p

It is a genuinely superb film. Not going to see it in the cinema while you have the chance is foolish. I wasn't blown away by either of the previous Craig bonds. I enjoyed Casino Royale but it wasn't as good as I was expecting. Skyfall was superb. I have no idea what film Dragon saw and I'd love to hear his reasoning. With the exception of Casino Royale I agree with Ski that since Golden Eye Bond films have been awful.

Skyfall is not, Dragon is in fact the first person I have seen who has disliked it. Just because a franchise has been previously awful doesn't mean it will continue to be. In the same way a sports franchise can be turned around by a new coach and a new direction the same is true of a movie franchise. Sam Mendes is the director of Skyfall and he did an excellent job. I'm not surprised by this, he is a superb director.

Another example amongst the long list of talent from the production team is art director Chris Lowe who was involved in Harry Brown, Captain America and The Constant Gardener.

The film is excellent and I highly recommend going to see it. I can't wait to go and see it for at least the second time. If you want another reason for seeing it, every critics review and film journalists opinion I have seen so far have rated it 4 or 5 stars. Only my very favourite films would get a 5 star and this doesn't quite get that but it gets a very comfortable 4 stars from me.

^^^^^ This is how you make a good argument.

Not just going "its crap" and leaving it at that.

Well I could elaborate it a little more, but I suppose you don't want me to spoil the film for you, do you?

It's a james bond film. tl;dr people die. :p Is there much plot to james bond films? ;-)

Would be nice to get some more detail like "the effects werent as good as could have been" "the plot was tedious" "the editing was poor because of...." sort of things that's all.
