This might be the first elder scrolls game I actually buy. Think bethesda have grown up a lot more and come along way in a short time especially after having played new vegas which was leaps and bounds above fallout 3.

All the reviews say its like drinking unicorn giggles, then again everyone said that about oblivion...

I feel the need to point out that you played and enjoyed Morrowind in school :p

Pre-ordered it ages ago also, really looking forward to it. :D

Been playing Elder Scrolls games since Daggerfall and have enjoyed all of them so far. Though I'd like to give Arena, Battlespire, and Redguard a try sometime. . . .

Sadly it comes out half-way through the month I'm gonna be writing a 10,000 word paper. I might just not play it until I'm done. . . . Willpower. . . .

Yeah, New Vegas was done by Obsidian, makers of Alpha Protocol and other such exciting games!

Bethesda did the patches for New Vegas apparently.

Bethesda did almost nothing of NV, they did all of Fallout 3 though, including the DLC which they have been quoted as saying they dont want to repeat with Skyrim, instead wanting fewer, bigger DLC.

I'm all for bigger DLC, I think that would generate a lot of good-will. Poor Todd Howard must be getting sick of the "lol, horse armour" jokes that come up *every* time he mentions DLC to a journalist. :p

Wow really? That sucks. Well guess there isnt really any reason for me to think this game will be anything other than a cool intro followed by 100+ hours of piss.

That's a nice negative response there - have you even looked at the gameplay teasers and info revealed so far?
Or more importantly did you like Oblivion but felt it needed the ability to dual wield weapons and spells and a need for dragons?

Come on now, you know exactly what you're getting with a bethesda game, you either like them, or you don't. I, personally, cannot get on with them, despite, on paper, them always looking enticing to me.

I don't buy them any more.

I have looked at the trailers, and it looks (IN MY OPINION) like Morrowind with a graphical update. (Ducks...)

I don't know what ghostwolf is moaning about though. I thought he bought and liked fallout 3, which had bethesda dripping from its every pore and orifice.

Fallout 3 was ok and kudos has to be given for the bethesda team for taking a well loved game franchise and continuing it to a sequel. Shine on you crazy diamonds.

Oblivion was total pony. It failed in pretty much everyway i can think for it to fail. Hence my distrust and ire for bethesda and their fantasy franchise. Places I wanted to be wowed were totally underwhelming. For someone who played morrowind extensivly I felt oblivion held nothing for me even before i borrowed it, played it and then wondered why i'd even done either of those two things. Yes the graphics were better but if i want to look at something pretty i'll buy a painting, lord knows it'll be deeper than any plot oblivion can concoct that i give two shits about.

Skyrim tugged my rpg heart strings when it said you are a viking and you will fight dragons. And that was good up until i watched the promo vids (and yes i did to answer Kas' question) and then i see that its pretty much ALL you seem to do.

Its worse where in one of the vids the guy shows u unlocking the last voice unlock in the game. Seriously. You harp on about the main quest of this game being about killing dragons to earn these awesome abilities and then you show us getting to the end of that in a promo vid... I see this kinda stuff as bethesda saying 'This game is morrowind again with 1 or 2 tweaks that are the only things different that we wont shut up about. They arent worth the £40 quid we will be charging you.'

I agree with nearly all of your points Ghost. However pretty much all of the Elder Scrolls games including and since Morrowind have and will be the same. There aren't any major leaps forwards in first person RPGs that are on the horizon as far as i am concerned.

However each title tells a different story and focuses on a different realm of Tamriel. Up till now each of the games has (in my mind) upped the ante with the scale and repercussion of its plot, and while Skyrim may seem to have slipped down a bit since Oblivion (then again how do you beat a plot threatening Hell pouring out into your reality?). Untill reviews are up we can't truly know the plot until it's been played and full reviews are up.

One thing i would say is that Bethesda seem to have listened to extensive criticism, and while Skyrim uses the same engine, it's been heavily re-written and optimized.

If you showed me screenshot of the terrain in comparison to Oblivion i might not be able to draw the link.

Finally while Bethesda even said as much as 'Skyrim won't be as much of a step forwards from Oblivion as Oblivion was from Morrowind' they are doing some impressive stuff like have quests generated on the move for the player, each of the settlements can come under un-scripted attack from dragons and you can even attack the income source of a settlement and watch the economy alter. These i consider to be a step forward as they create a much more immersive world.

Pretty sure they're using completely different engines...

Aye, they're using the "Creation Enginge" now I think? Though some people seem to be the opinion that it's just an updated version of their old one (Gamebryo?). Though I don't think there's any evidence one way or another, so I'll be giving Bethesda the benefit of the doubt.

I'm definitely stoked for this game though. :D
