It would be best not to rely too much on the crusader stuff, however it does give a slight advantage towards getting a starting point for your healing.

Firstly it would be wise to begin the Kara quests to gain the key, this can be started by going down to Karazhan in southern Deadwing Pass, west of Swamp of Sorrows.

Whilst doing those quests it would be a good start to also start doing heroics where possible and, as a paladin healer, it is very important to get a good healing mod such as Grid of cEasyHealer. This is because a paladin relies on fast, continuous flash heals rather than big, mana-consuming heals and, therefore, it would be imperetive to be able to flick from one healing target to another during the 1.5 second healing casts without having to physically click on portraits. In a raid, this is doubly important.

This would be a very good start, also try to do some healing in heroics and other such instances to get a feel of paladin-style healing.

Don't know about pally gear, but for shamans some of the best healing gear comes from pvp, at least for starting out. Right now its very easy to grind honour - I did 25k last week on razer without really trying much, which would be enough to get you the 385+heal gladiator season 1 mace. at the least do the pvp dailys, then when season 4 comes out, pick up the +425 healing mace:). Just an option...

the only worthwhile healing gear from pvp is the weapon, other than that I would suggest using actual pve gear from heroics such as the D3 set.

OK...progress:

I got my 1st few parts to my healing gear. The Essence Focuses + Crystal Pulseshield, then the Spaulders and Gloves to the Crusader's Ornamented Set.. Working on my Rep with Shatar/Lower City/Keepers of Time for the last 3 parts of the set..

Im also PVPing like a monster to get rep for PVP Sets, but as Retri..

Like you say, when I started as Healadin i had the Crusader Scaled gear and a load of greens. This got me through instances nicely to pick up equipment not in that set, boots, rings, trinkets knecklace etc. Also helps to get the Essence Focuser and Crystal pulse shield as a decent boost to your bonus Heal.
Kara key is a damn good idea, now im in Kara, my healing has jumped up 500ish in 3 runs :D, and i still not got the plate healing loot from there.
Always helps to have some Elixers to boost the healing too, Drenaic Wisdom and Healing power are great helps.
Got +healing enchants for hands and bracers you can have no cost if u need and any help u need getting rep, just ask. C U in game

Kara attunements been removed I believe, but doing the quests is a good way to get gear from the instances. I imagine the scarab of the infinite cycle from black morass would be a very nice healing trinket for a pally ( I still use it on razer sometimes ). As for pvp, yeah, prioritise the wpn, for shammies there are a few other good items as well, guess its different for pallys.

Gratz on the 70 Sab, well done!

2 things. Firstly, conrary to what Vonya says, wear plate. Secondly, healing mods cant be relied upon and also make healing get boring quick. And for those who cant cant click a portrait thats right near the healing button every now and again; firstly, use the mouse to click and the number buttons to heal..... and secondly, im supprised you can make it accross the road when you need to cross it with the lack of reaction times you must have.

Much healing love. Baldi

Wearing plate as a paladin healer is very much the best thing to do; one of your strengths as a paladin is that you are durable irrespective of your role, and to play to that strength, you shouldn't go lower than plate unless you have no alternative; if you have to go downwards, try to avoid lower than mail.

As for healing mods, there are some I'd recommend, such as Decursive, which makes your life easier without making it boring. On my priest I personally use Clique, which lets me map spells to various keyboard/mouse combinations (such as Shift-LClick for Flash Heal) and use that in combination with character portraits to do fast and effective healing. This might not be as good for you, though, since you only have a couple of healing spells, wheras I have 8 spells mapped to shift-click or ctrl-click, which keeps some variety going still.

Hmm...with regards to the "healing mods can't be relied upon" comment, clicking on portraits doesn't cut it in 25 man or even 10 man raid healing, in my opinion, as without some sort of mod, you can't see anyones health outside your group. I'd be very surprised to see any healer raiding without some sort of mod to display everyones health and allow them to select anyone in the raid easily. I use healbot continued, which is very similar to clique and seems to work very well. As for the plate argument, I'd say use as much plate as possible, but mail where its a clear upgrade ( I use the odd bit of leather armour on my shaman, although I've never dropped to cloth, as, like a pally, on of a shamans advantages is lack of squishiness! ). Good luck and have fun.

The standard blizzard raid UI can be used to display everyone's HP/mana. I have it set up to show all people's health - I quite like it as its minimalistic and I can fit all 8 groups onto my screen easily.

Cool! Didn't know that - I'll give that a try, might work better for me, as my hotkeys are for heal spells are macroed to swap in the appropriate totem to boost that heal spell. Though generally chain heal gets the most use in raids. At the end of the day, give a mod or two a try though, might work better for you or it might not.

All you need to do is bring up the raid tab and then move your mouse over where (for instance) it says "Group 2" left click and drag into your main window. It created a funky little box which ONLY shows up on my UI when i am in a raid and when there is actually someone in it.

You can also hover over a particular person's name and drag a box containing just their status out.

You can also hover over a particular class name and get a box containing all members of that class in your raid, IIRC.

Healing mod wise, I personally use cEasyHealer, much the same as mods like Clique and Grid, which allows me to see the raid's HP percentage as well as coloured to recognise their class and ailments such as curses, poisons and magical debuffs to help recognise who needs healing most.

On the terms of reaction times, I would love to see someone with my computer try and heal using portraits in a 10man or 25man raid, my computer is slow enough as it is and using a mod to help concentrate with less hassle is a blessing.

Also use Decursive, which really says for itself.
