You choose which source to trust, IGN 5 months ago or IGN 4 days ago... :P
Waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait!

Since when could we trust IGN at any time???

Come release day, I will buy whatever package is reasonably priced and makes sense for me. Otherwise, well.... yarrr?

According to the articles I have read, in the shops you will only be able to buy the complete package (whichever colour that is... Black I think) that contains the whole lot...

From Steam you will be able to buy the new games individually...

Well here's some info that just goes to show how much Valve care about us consumers:

If you want to buy Episode 2/Portal/TF2, you'll have to buy a copy of HL2 and Episode 1 in the "Orange Box". Their argument is that you can sell the HL2/Episode 1 discs if you've already got them....yeah, right. How much is it going to be worth when there are millions of other unwanted copies floating around....

luckily this will all be available through steam...

You sure you didn't read it in this thread? ;P (Jeez I'm sarcastic in this thread. I'm blaming it on pre-exam stress. Apologies.)

Yeah. Lame. :(

But, the thing is, it's still cheaper than buying TF2/EP2/Portal on their own, so I'm considering it...

IIRC they said that if you do buy those versions and you already have those games you will be able to pass the keys on to other people who do not already have those games.

I think.

Is it cheaper than buying TF2 + Portal?
Yes, maybe. Well, could be different for you, I dunno how steam works with pricing between continents.

For me: (Prices in USD)

Portal: $20
TF2: $30
EP2: $30

Orange Box: $50 (but there's a $5 discount if you preorder...)

Correct, it seems.

Basically, I'll get charged tax (VAT?) on my order but otherwise I'll pay in USD, or at least I think that's what happens.

So, I can buy TF2 + Portal for the same price as I could buy everything... or actually the Orange Box turns out to be cheaper if I preorder. So even if I think the whole "give your HL2 key to a friend" thing is crap it's still cheaper for me to go along with it than argue. Crazy.

I'm not going to buy Ep2, TF2 or Portal just because they won't sell them without HL2 and Ep1. If they removed those from the package, they could make it cheaper still, for us with those other games already. Anyone I know who I might "give away" my games to either already has HL2 and/or Ep1, or will want Ep2, TF2 and/or Portal as well... So it's stupid. It's a way to make more money, and it's mean.

Yeah, we've had this rant from me for a good few months now, but it still annoys the hell out of me :(

It's primarily those "Meet the..." that make me want to buy the game. :)

EDIT: Right, I've pre-ordered the Orange Box! I don't see what the big fuss is, you're getting 6 games for the price of one!
