I was led to believe that THN is a group of gaming enthusiasts that form WoW/Eve/other MMO guilds using a forum and teamspeak server as a shoutbox and Online Events organiser where you can meet real life friends who you may play games with via Steam and other game servers.

I voted for a teamspeak server also, though ofc course its more than that as there are many free ts servers, no, for me THN is a place to forge lasting online (and potentially offline) acquaintances and friends.

I think that "A place to meet real life friends " is ambiguous, is it supose to be "A place to make real life friends", or exactly what it says (a rival to facebook )?
