Making me even happier at my recent purchase of an HTC Desire. Ah, freedom of choice, how good you taste.

No bob. It can't.

My android has a trackball though, unlike your iPhone, so you can suck it if you so wish :)

I mean, it is disappointing when you only have DOUBLE the RAM and 400MHz extra on the CPU over the 3GS in your Android handset... but hey, what can you do eh? I guess I could downgrade to an iPhone... ;)

*finishes winding up the bob*

You may have a more powerful phone but I'd still, having used a few android phones prefer to use my iPhone. Also with iPhone 4 and iOS 4 coming out I'd defo rather be sticking with my iPhone.

Gotta admit, the iPhone 4 does look like a rather tasty morsel. Once again Apple coming out with the shiniest thing first, only to be outdone in 3 months time hardware-wise, before releasing a new handset another year later :p
Still, the Apple brand is what keeps the thing selling, so kudos to them for being able to get people to buy something just on branding.

Really didn't want to post in this thread, but there we go... I've got an iPhone 3G, my contract is coming up soon, and I'll be getting a new iPhone, simple as. But that's just me. I'll probably get the iPhone 4.5, rather than the 4, but whatever.

However, you just admitted that Apple do something great, then, while their product is selling, they get out done 3 months later hardware wise when everyone starts to copy what Apple have just done.

Well durr! The other companies don't have the over heads for R&D that Apple spent because they are copying Apple. And hardware gets cheaper as time goes on. I mean... Ah sod it, I just don't care :)

Must admit, I don't like Apple, i think their computers are annoying, slow and shite to use, but i would choose an iPhone over any other phone out there, really. When my contracts up, I'll defo be upgrading my iphone simply because: It's worth it. Granted, the lack of flash is annoying, but Pfft. Shit happens. And it's a small sacrifice to do for an awsome phone.

(ON a side note, I accually use my iPhone as my iPod and Phone, so having less to carry around is a big bonus to me, as well.)

elD, what kind of world do you live in where creating a new phone takes three months? If a phone comes out three months after the iPhone, it's had its features developed and decided months before Apple announced anything at all...

This.

It's not that the other phones copy what Apple have done, it's that the hardware has improved (faster processors, more RAM etc.)
It's hard for Apple to compete, as huge as they are, they are still one company. When you have an OS like Android, it's not a single company producing handsets, so the numbers of handsets coming out are much greater (HTC, LG, Samsung, Motorola, etc). This gives the variety which Apple lacks, allowing those with lower amounts to spend on phones to still be able to afford a smartphone.

My contract costs considerably lower than a basic iPhone one would, and the handset was free. I love the iPhone, and have had a good tinker with several people's, but it's hard for me to justify several hundred pounds extra over 2 years for an inferior piece of hardware, with what is rapidly becoming an inferior OS.

..... eh? With a new version coming out, youd rather be sticking with your old version?

How does that work?

seems that my reply didnt quote bobs message in it.

Variation in hardware and devices for android / win mobile = large
Variation in hardware and devices for iphone os = tiny

E.g. if someone wants to run android on a tablet thats not as heavy/large as an iPad - then they can buy a smaller device to suit your needs, because the variation and diversity is out there.

If someone wants to run iphone os on a tablet thats not as heavy/large as an iPad - then.... oh wait, thats just the iPhone.... bad example :p.

I like having the flexibility of getting the hardware I want, not just putting up with the same old shit that Apple spew out time and time again.

320dpi? So what? My eyes only see about 200. All you've done is made the dpi smaller, and the text bigger, increasing processing power, and reducing battery life from what it could have been.

Android has some serious fragmentation problems, though. Less than half of all Android devices are actually running the newest version...

and *that* is the head of the nail. Diversity in hardware also causes too much diversity in software.
