Check Piacular's wiki comment Spring is an open source version of the original TA. TA also allows alot of newer version's of itself so I see no problem with that one. Edit: Doh got wrong end of stick.

Not sure about the multibit but the whole game is that old would anyone care?

As I quoted from the all knowing Wikipedia in the shoutbox yesterday:

"...however, the prepackaged mod that comes with the standard installation requires that one own a copy of TA to legally play it..."

But also,

"There is, however, an official release which uses fully free content, and there are a number of mods, both in development and released, that are also completely free to use."

in reference to Spring.

As for the multibit of TA, "The term [Abandonware] has no legal meaning.".

However, according to the readme for Multiplayer Spawn:

3.3 MULTI-PLAYER GAME SPAWNING
Total Annihilation allows you to install spawned copies onto other computers for multi-player games. At least one person needs to have the multi-player CD (Disc 1) in the drive according to following chart.

• 1 game CD can support up to 3 players.
• 2 game CDs can support up to 6 players.
• 3 game CDs can support up to 10 players.

So, as long as the required number of people have the CD in the drive according to this, I see no (legal) problem if the other people don't have the game. The only thing being how to get the install to them. I would say that an ISO image to the other people would be fine, as long as they only install the Spawn multiplayer part, and delete the image straight afterwards... But I'm no law type person! Discuss!

Ah that's ringing bells now :) So both Tetsuo and I have discs. Therefore we can have up to 6 players :D ROCK ON!

Well, doesn't Pia have the CDs too? I will happily play next week, which means we can have 10 people (if Pia doesn't have CDs)! :D

i have 2 sets of disks :D though the fact that one of the disk 1 got severely destroyed by a hungry CD drive is another matter

Whats the biggest game you can get in TA, was it 8 player? Iron Fist, how amazing would 8 player, 4-team (two per isle) Metal Isles be? :D

i know skirmish supported 10 per map but i'll check it out i think that CC and BT extended it to 16 but i'm not certain about that and that's not going to be possible with the spawn install

it works... i now have a Spawn only ISO though it still weighs in at ~300MB (just under 270 RARed)

Before you guys go any further, and because I can't play on Thursday, where is my rep for bringing the Spawn idea forward, hhhmmmm hhmmmmmm???? :rolleyes:

And don't forget to rub elD and Iron Fist's rep muscles too! ... and Fury, I suppose :).

Oh, and I have the CD's like Mr elD said, but now we have CD overload, when we only need 3 :D.

So how are we doing this? FFA or 2v2v2v2v2 or 5v5 or ... ? Maybe we could mix it up a little? Personally, I like a bit of teamplay so that I can blame the other guy for my misfortune :D

I woulda, but Mr. Iron couldnt get his copy working :( I had a me vs. cpu skirmish which was half decent, but Ive lost the touch. What little I had of it, at least.
