Total Annihilation

So, from recent discussion on an unrelated thread, it seems there are several amongst us who fondly remember the awesome of TA, and would be interested in doing some Hamachi based TA games.

If you don't have TA, you can get it totally legitimately (and for cheap) here.
This is the Commander pack, which includes both the expansions we would be playing with. At the price of $6, it's a purchase you won't regret.

For those who don't know, the game is an old RTS, with two rival factions; CORE and ARM. TA was ahead of it's time, as it actually used heightmaps for LoS, as well as a bunch of other cool things, like artillery actually working like artillery, not a superLASER.

Basically I want a show of hands of who would be interested in this, and people's levels of experience with the game. This way we won't have pros D-Gunning all the newbies from the start (Pwnstar will still try it, I guarantee it).

All are welcome, any level of skill. The game itself doesn't take too long to get used to, the hardest part is getting used to just how many units are in the game, and which does what - or what counters what.

If I preguessed every one who had previously shown interest, it would be an empty thread :p

Good to see we have the 5 I knew of... now to find more!

Sure, I'd be interested, never really played it much as a kid but I got myself a copy recently. :)

ok so for those of us who haven't played in a while, what setup is recommended

i know you install TA, then BT, then CC, then 3.1c

what others do you recommend for instance, TAdr 0.99 etc?

Well I have just installed the one from GoG, afaik it's just TA/BT/CC/3.1c in that order. Do we need more addons at first?

I never understood the love of TA; I hated it. And I'm an RTS fan, weird eh?

I didn't like it much either, but I've gotten into Supreme Commander 2 recently so I guess TA is worth giving another shot!

TA was good because of the sheer scale of it and easy modability. Also for its era, almost no RTS allowed you to play defensively.
