Train Crash Horror ...?

Here's an article about how a young lad got killed recently when he was riding shotgun in his mates car.

Article

Now here's my cruel hard statement - I don't feel any sympathy. I first saw this in the paper to day and they had a big picture on the front page. My first clue - aftermarket rims. Second clue - 17yr old. Third clue - going to college. Fourth - Ford Fiesta. Fifth - he had mates in the car.

Basically, this wasn't an accident because he couldn't see the train lights or the sun was too low or anything, my take is: A young guy, probably a ned/bam/chav, and his two mates were in a Ford Fiesta going to college. The driver obviously reckons hes a bit of a boy racer with his aftermarket rims and bodykit etc. They were driving to college, and the driver, the twat that he is, puts his foot down on a straight road. he sees the level crossing up ahead, but he doesn't slow down. Oh no. He's going to be flash and speed across the damn thing. Whee! Smash. The twat hits the train and kills his best mate because he's a boy racing twat with no regards for safety.

Why are the police reading into this? There are far too many young guys with modded cars putting about the place like the roads are a racetrack. I read every week 'tragic 17 yr old dies in car smash' 'young driver and girlfriend killed in horror accident' 'two boys fighting for life after horror smash' and I just say to myself - you bloody deserve it, mate. Discuss.

This sort of thing happens here as well, though not as often.

I don't think anyone deserves it. If you have to be stupid though that's fine with me, i'm all for natural selection.

But the tragic part is that innocent bystanders get hurt.

Yeah, man, we better get rid of level crossings. And intersections. Can't have the possibility of two vehicles traveling in different directions meeting!

Have to say I agree with you there tets. The driver may have been egged on by his friends but at the end of the day he should know better and the lights are there for a fucking reason.

Natural Selection ftw

I can't say I feel much sympathy for the driver being injured because it's likely that (as you said) he was being stupid. I do feel sympathy for the passengers though, as it's entirely possible they had been telling the driver to slow down.

I was in a car once with a couple of friends and the driver was being reckless. I told him to slow down but he wouldn't. In the end, we got where we were going safely, but I flatly refused to get in his car for the ride home and got the train instead. Ironocally, he did get into an accident on the way home, but it wasn't his fault (he was stopped at traffic lights and someone drove into the back of his car), and no-one was injured.

What no-one else seems to have mentioned is that this won't just affect the three who were in the car. There are friends and relatives who have lost loved one, the driver of the train will have to live with having killed someone (even though it's not his fault he's likely to feel quite a lot of guilt over the guys death). These are the people who get my sympathy.

Uhm sry guys, but for some reason I don't actually get what is so "special" about that accident? Maybe I've overread it or whatever, but to me it just sounds like a car got caught by a train when it bassed a track/street crossing? Onlything remarkable is that the driver was only 17! So, can you perhaps explain to me whats the point of all that?

well if your stupid enuf to get pwned by a fucking huge shiney metal object then you shouldnt be driving, simple as that, i plan to get a modded car when i turn 17 (few months), does this mean im going to be a twat n get owned by a train?

Basically, Im speculating that the driver was speeding excessively and brought the accident upon himself. He was 17 and just passed his test, maybe the only guy in the group that was able to drive. He was driving a modded Fiesta (vehicle of choice for the indiscriminate boy racer), and like blokey says, his mates were probably sitting in the back having a hoot. You wouldn't believe how many young people die on our roads, and I would attribute it mostly to the modding scene that seems to be floating about just now. Too many young guys showing off and putting the foot down when they shouldn't. Only a couple of weeks ago my driving instructor was telling me how two lads died when they wrapped their car around a lamppost trying to do Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift stunts.
Does Germany not have a problem similar to this, where you can't cross the bloody road for all the twats in their Subarus and Lancers roaring up and down and just generally causing misery to all?

Let's just say that the probability of that is probably higher than for an ordinary driver.

Wraith is right, it's a big loss to friends and family as well and they weren't the ones being stupid.

Well first of all here in Germany driving for 17 year old kids is just allowed if you have somebody sitting next to you who has his drivers license for more than 2 years. You are only allowed to drive alone when you are at the age of 18 years or older! Secondly in Germany there is a very harsh restriction on how to modify your car. E.g. you may not use spoilers with sharp edges, neon lights etc. And thirdly our police officers are very good at hiding behind bushes and traffic signs or whatever in order to take speed measures on cars passing by and the fines are relatively high (and if you are still in your so called "Testing period" you can directly hand over your drivers license if you are more than 10 km/h to fast).

But still we have those "c00l ganxta rac0rs", maybe not as many as you have in the UK, but we have them. Those guys, and concerning that I totally agree to your opinion, are a danger for the public as they obviously don't think that they have care about speed limits.

Yet accidents like this train accident, the thread is about, don't happen that often here, and this may also be because most of those "street racers" are racing around on the motorways where we don't have any speed limits. But the good thing about that is ... if they should have an accident ... you can be sure that they wll never have one again ... either because they are dead or because they are forbidden to drive a car for several years.

or scared shitless from the previous crash

whats the point of all that?

its fairly simple, normal people going about their business just dont get hit by trains on crossings for obvious reasons :P and that alone says enough about the story

its extremely hard to get hit by a train without it being your own fault

stupid reasons:
a) playing chicken with the train
b) ignored the lights for whatever reason
c) drove through the barriers if there were any
d) "couldnt see the train" considering the above examples i think this would only be possible if you were blind (why are you driving?)
e) car stalled in the middle of the rail and you sat there trying to start it even until the train was upon you (lol, some people have actually done this..)

non-stupid reasons:
f) some other idiot was driving and doing one of the above
g) lights/barriers stopped working and the train was obstructed by a bush (unlikely, but entirely possible)
h) you were the bad guys at the end of Eraser

let me know if i missed any :P

That post sums it all up really. if the reason for this happening is one of the "stupid reasons" listed above... then I have no sympathy whatsoever.

If, however, it is for one of the non-stupid reasons... then I have all the sympathy in the world for the people affected by those reasons.

so from that update it seems pretty obvious to me he was tryingto run the lights and perhaps "look cool"

Wait wait wait. Alan Thain from Tain killed by a train? That there is a proofreader's worst nightmare.

It certainly looks that way to me as well. It's just a pity that his friends had to suffer and die because he was trying to show off.

And here I was looking forward to playing taxi driver for a bunch of friends this evening...... all aged 17 to 18, and yes I'm a probationary driver

Luckily, I didn't think adding a spoiler or neon's to my 1.4 Toyota Corolla would really enhance it's gangsta appeal, so maybe we'll survive

Seriously though, what is the point of mods? Bump up your insurance, and do little for performance, why not just invest in a bigger engine?

:S

The same point as jewelery, expensive clothes, lights in your computer case, etc...

Precisely. Materialistic mince :) Except that putting a wing on your car probably makes you feel inclined to drive faster, and thus more dangerously. In all fairness though, a bigger engine is probably more dangerous than a couple of sideskirts and a muffler tip; but in terms of modding it's definitely the wrong way to go about it :)
