What are you playing?

The influx of new games has died off almost completely in the typical summer lull. I watch gaming news pretty much daily and the stories have all shifted to either small projects or stuff that's going to be out at Christmas. Fairly boring.

So, what you guys 'n' gals playing to get through this boring mid-summer patch?

Personally, I'm kicking about at:

  • EVE Online, as my active MMO
  • Dwarf Fortress, because I like the pain
  • Multiwinia, when I've only got a few minutes
  • A few random bits on the X360, mostly to keep my gamerscore from falling behind D's

Tales of Vesperia on my 360
CoD4 (me n bob are part of a clan)
Sometimes CoD5
EVE Online
A bit of Fifa 09
The odd game of civ4 or colonization
Also trying to get back into Rock Band (when my legs are healed up i'm tempted to get a drumrocker as a treat to myself :D)

Me:
  • I've just bought Mirror's Edge for the 360. We'll see how that goes.
  • I'm also getting quite into Sacred 2, even if though there are a few "things" (I don't want to say bugs, problems, or anything like that, because they're not. They are kind of game balancing issues, but not quite... For example, the Seraphim can single handily kill anything in the game, while other classes physically can't kill certain creatures due to their health regen rate) wrong with it. It's quite fun.
  • Possibly Guild Wars. I'm playing with Piacular and Bambi at the moment, though only for a few hours a week. However, if I get more time to play games, I might be interesting in expanding this.
  • I'm actually getting into TF2 again. I enjoy it as a game to play for an hour at a time. And I really just enjoy messing around in it. Like being a defending spy on 2fort. Or playing RandomTF2, which is just plain old silly; you are given a random class, with random weapons. Think scout with stealth and flamethrower, awesome! Then think of engineer with 2 shotguns and no wrench, boring death.

I'm sure there are more, but I can't think at the moment. Also, don't lie about Multiwinia, no one plays it!

No, seriously, I do play it. Usually assault. Though assault also annoys me when attacking as the choke points are insanely hard to get past due to the efficiency and quantity of turrets. The only way I've found of really punching a hole is to use a tank on flyby dropping guys off as it shoots past and hope I've got enough to overwhelm the defence.

This is what Chris coined as "Hot Drops". Very effective too! And as the attackers usually get a large number of Multiwinians each wave, dropping 100 guys on a turret or 2 should easily disable/capture them.

Assault is my favourite mode, actually!

At the moment I'm playing refresh the scan page to see if my deliveries have been sent.

Before my PC died I was playing;

  • Trine - An absolutely stunning game. The graphics are breathtaking and gameplay is interesting. It's a puzzle game in which you can choose one of three characters and use their ability to solve a problem. The thief has a grappling hook, the warrior breaks shit and the wizard summons things. I think it would be wrong to call this game a puzzle game and more of a platformer. It's not like portal where you have to sit and try and figure this puzzle out but still worth a go.
  • The Witcher - Got it for my birthday and it's a very enjoyable game with a very interesting storyline. Very similar to Neverwinter Nights.
  • Europa Universalis: Rome - It's like a slightly enhanced version of the world map of Total War games (Pre-empire, anyway). Enjoyable for a quick romp.

For me it's....

  • World of Warcraft - stil part of Northrend Exposure Guild and we are up to Yogg in 25man but things have gone a bit quiet over summer.
  • Call of Duty - been playing this with some from the guild, enjoying hardcore mode on Tin of COD server. Got accused of cheating which is always funny.
  • TF2 - blast of this every now and then, mainly been playing on UK Heroes server.
  • Battleforge - tried this out since it's free to play, quiet a interesting game but I hate the fact you have to spend money to get any cards, upgrades come from PVE matches but not new cards.

Then on the Xbox360 I have been dabbling with
  • Mass Effect - loving this but it is a side line distraction from the PC.
  • Gears of War 2, Halo 3 I've played through, but just got the wireless sorted so fancy some multiplayer some time.

My Gfx card has died and since I've got resists for uni next month, and my lack of cash - I can't replace it untill late next month. I've not been playing much for the past few months tbh, and now that my gfx card can only play older games without having a heart attack it's pretty much been:

BF2 - It was such a good game, I'm almost sad that we stopped playing together :(.
UFO: Enemy Unkown - Safe to say my gfx card can handle this awesome game :D!
NS: Been getting back into the style of NS, it's just a shame theres so few servers these days, hopefully NS 2 will bring about a revoloution.

Maybe the LAN will open your eyes to other games you might like to try :)
As well as games we will have, there are a number of exhibitors that will have upcoming games (such as Codemasters with Jumpgate Evolution).

PC:

-EVE: My newest found addiction.
-Planetside: Going to stop playing it at the end of this month until SOE decide to fix the incredibly unbalanced Lasher.
-Anno series (Mainly 1404 & 1701): Nothing quite as relaxing as building colonies on islands and then buttraping the natives for their resources :)
-Medieval 2 Total War: Currently Jihading my way to victory in the Crusades campaign
-CoD4 & WAW occasionally: Gotta get my quick fix of adrenaline somewhere.
PS Hardcore mode = real CoD

PS3
-GTA4: Decided I'd take the time to play through it again in glorious HD seeing as we finally got rid of our old 27" piece of crap.
-Bioshock: Brother won it in a competition, and seeing as my PC is currently not up to playing it at any decent frame rate, I'm playing through it on the PS3 :)

Wow, wow and wow at the moment. Actually really enjoying it, guess it must be because the pally is so imbah compared to every other class I've tried.

Right now I'm in superhero disguise (green goggles, ogre loincloth, low cut top and a lantern) and doing level 5 undercity quests for rep :)

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory on the single player front.

Sir, you need to get yourself doing Chaos Theory on the multiplayer front. Probably the best two player coop game ever, and the Versus mode is pretty damn good as well.

Hoy, :)

Mmmmyeah, but you see, I play Splinter Cell when I have holes in the work, here and there. I suppose I could set up events to find players and stuff, but, meh.

Also, playing the game through Metaboli, and multiplayer keys are a bit of a hassle to get, alas...

Cheers,
J.

Nothing actively, at the moment. At least one night a week I'm working until 11 pm, and I get up at 7 every day. I haven't really gotten into any decent multiplayer games lately, mainly because when you guys were playing them I didn't have the money or time. I'm waiting for that really good game to be released at the moment. Also I need to upgrade my box. Plus it's summer. So, all in all, probably won't play anything much until autumn.

Right now I'm trying out Anno 1404 - enjoying it so far :)
