What game has the best soundtrack?

Guild Wars soundtrack was... boring.

(Ignoring what a constructive comment that was,) I think you'll find many people agree with me. Jeremy Soule has done some absolutely incredible work (Elder Scrolls, anyone?) but the Guild Wars soundtrack just wasn't up to par. The ambient pieces lacked the style and definition to set them apart from the background, and the faster pieces were too cliche and repetitive to be worth listening to on their own.

Only as constructive as yours, really. But that aside, the Guild Wars soundtrack might have been 'boring' or 'repetitive' but I found that it fit quite nicely with the explorative nature of the game. That's not to say I loved it to bits, but I found nothing wrong with it. Mind you, most of the time I turned it off and blasted Radiohead instead :/

Also, other than the obvious "Guitar Hero/ Guitar Hero II/ Frets on Fire" option, I agree that Deus Ex had a magnificent soundtrack (so much that I have ending #1 music as my phone's ringtone), Uplink was amazing (it's a balance between relaxing and tension that is very well addressed) and
I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Doom's E1M1... forever burned in my brain, that one.

How so? My original comment explained, in a nutshell, why I don't like that soundtrack. It was a comment about the music, which is what we're looking for, no?

Command and Conquer has the best soundtracks and from Red Alert theres even more good ones!!

Jep... that one sure was a great song ... but what do you guys thing about Dawn of War? Great Orchestral Music and ... of course The Legend of Zelda ... I think this one is the UBER-classic concerning good soundtracks!

Oh dear how could Have I forgotten Warhammer 40000 dawn of war , winter assault and dark crusade ... It has one of the best also.
