What is the first computer game you remember playing?

Right, this was prompted by me remembering a conversation on Teamspeak a few months that just made me astounded. We were talking about what games we had played in the past and someone mentioned (not sure who it was) that the first game they had ever played was Flight Simulator 95 .

Now I know we have a range of different generations here in Thehavennet but this blew me away.

So what is the first computer game you remember.

For me I'm not too sure. I think back and remember playing games on BBC mircos and Spectrum 48ks. But which was first I'm not sure. I definetly remember loving to play chuckie egg.

My first EVER game was... Wolfenstein 3D. Seriously :D. And yes, I was only 4 at the time. I suppose I must be your stereotypical "consumed by madness and violence stemming from gaming" teenager having played from that age, but no. Also worthy of note is the fact I had to use DOS on the machine I had at the time - a 386 laptop. :p

More info on that available on request. :)

My second ever game was... Doom. :D

You're noticing an emerging pattern here, I presume? Well at this point it stuffs up completely, as I started to play loads of games at this point.

Classic games that I really liked from the days gone by? Well:

Elevators From Hell - great game where you must evade a robot and get out of a building :)
Rise Of The Triad - pioneering game with support for loads of multiplayer opponents; also fusing FPS with magic, guns (dual pistols w00t!) and attitude :). (Also guards who pretended to be dead and then shot you in the back!)
Bio Menace - The most awesome platform game on the PC - EVER!
Major Stryker - A cool scrolling space game :)
Elite+ - classic reworking of Elite - with polygons and colour!

Also, I remember a lot of those BBC games there too, Fury :D. Ah, nostalgia indeed. Except, why isn't the Grand Prix game there? I know it exists because I played it as recently as 2000! (this was before the school threw out a room full of 20 BBC's (fully working of course!) with TV's, and also 15 Mac Classics. The stupid gits.

I also have a BBC in the cupboard, but half of the keys are broken for some reason, and despite the fact I have a floppy drive I have no floppies to use with it. *sigh*

Testdrive. That pwned so much. With the Ferrari Testarossa, and the Lamborghini Countach. So 80's

Didn't it go on to spawn the series that is now Need For Speed?

The first game I ever remember playing was Horace goes skiing on a ZX81.

But the first game that really captured my imagination was Jet set willy on the Spectum 48k.

Ah yes, test drive should go on my list as well.
As for spawning need for speed, I don't think so. Test drive went on as its own rather sad series for a while...

Ahh the BBC Micro, my first computer :)

I believe the first BBC Micro game I played was Arcadians (loved that game!).

Brings back memories, I'm gonna play this again!

Then once I had access to a PC, I didn't stop playing Doom!

Cripes. You guys played your first games in colour?!

I think my very first game was probably called Pong or something similar, where there were two controllers to some console-style device that plugged into the TV (no idea what it was called) and you controlled either the left bat (a short white line) or the right bat (a similar short white line) and had to bounce the ball back at your opponent (that ball was a 2x2 pixel of white dots). Oh, the background was black. ;) That might have been 23/24 years ago.

I think the first game I can REMEMBER is one on my old Amiga called Stunt Car racer 3D. Was a damn fun game where you had a track in 3D that you had to drive round without crashing... you had to do loop the loops and stuff like that.

Hmm, come to think of it. It was probably space invaders on the mac? If not that, it was a game on the spectrum.

Maybe I was playing Pong on a black and white TV? That's the game, though!

That's one of my first as well. It was on the Atari 2600 (which was a colour machine - just :D - so you probably were on a black and white TV)

Other classics I had on the same machine were

Pele Soccer - (3 players + goalkeeper per team, with the players fixed to the points of a triangle and unable to move independantly  )

Pole Position - Fairly fun racing game but it tokk me ages to realise that the sound when passing another car wasn't just random static)

Top Gun - game of the film. Very advanced physics and graphices for the time. Excellent fun. I also have fun reminding my brother (who navigates Tornado's in the RAF) that I beat him nearly every time! :D

Those were the days

P.S. Taffy, N64 a long time ago? Don't agree with that comment mate. :p
