Ok so I open up my webcomics in Firefox like I normally do and find out, through reading the news story on Real Life Comics that Matt Boyd (previously Artist for the excellent Machall and more currently Three Panel Soul) has been sacked for TALKING about a gun at work.

Apparently a couple of co-workers got scared because about the same time as the Virginia Tech shootings he got interested in paper target shooting and got talking about his new hobby with a colleague. (Read the comics which are his way of telling the story - they are linked to in the blog I just linked)
The "colleague" then blabbed to a boss that s/he was scared of him and he was promptly sacked. To make matters WORSE, the fucking police then show up because he's told the story of how it happened via his webcomic and this apparently is "a borderline terroristic threat."

WHAT THE FUCK!!!

I would seriously be blowing my lid off right now and would most definitely be getting a lawyer and sueing the ass off of ANYONE involved in this... If I can't talk about what the hell I like without fearing for my job and my freedom, then I would rather kill myself. That, in my opinion, is no way to be living and I would now be doing anything I could to get one back at the US Government.

What a bunch of absolute tossers...

Yay for democracy! Oppresion of the majority FTW!!! Absolutely ridicualous, not to mention ENTIRELY illegal. There's no way in hell that counts as a lawful dismissal.

He should sue the company for unfair dismissal and sue the police for arresting him on unfair grounds and for police harrassment if they keep on trying to charge him.

You have the right to bear arms, but if you talk about them.. you're pretty much fucked. Like fight club!

Unforetunately since 9/11 the police in the US can quote anti-terrorism act and do as they please. Its nuts, this is a perfect example of protecting the people gone completely wrong. Its ridiculous.

This reminds me of a quotation from Benjamin Franklin (I hope I translated it correctly)
"A nation that gives up a little liberty to gain a little more security deserves neither and will loose both"

I think there is something like a boiling pot inside America ... and I fear that there will be far more trouble when it explodes than there will be if the "horror visions" of the American politicians should actually become true ...

Shame they didn't put something about the freedom to talk about guns in the constitution when they put the part about freedom to own them in...
