Getting in here quickly before bob, I've noticed that there is a distinct lack of sweepstake for this year's World Cup! A quick google search revealed that Radio 1 have their own sweepstake generator, presumably coded by Chris Moyles.

So it's simple! You reply to this post with a 'count me in!' and you'll be added to the generator! There are enough slots for 32 people (32 teams), so I guess you might end up with two (or three) [or four] teams depending on how many people participate. The first match begins at 3.00 BST on Friday - South Africa vs. Mexico - so I'll look at this thread on Wednesday night, see who wants to play and allocate teams then.

This is free to play of course, so you have nothing to lose by giving it a shot and plenty of pride to win if your team places first!

Get in. I'm hoping for a better team than ivory coast (the team i got in my work sweepstake), who, without drogba look like they'll fall apart in the group of death.

There's a rather poor turnout of only 14 people so far, despite the number of people that fre-quent THN every day. It don't cost nuthin'! You ain't losin' nuthin'! I'll make this the final bump, and then at 10.00 tonight I shall assign teams. If the 32-man quota isn't full, then I'll start picking people from the members list, starting with active, hi-post count people and moving down. Gombol first.

So come on and have some fun!

Joking aside, how much can you hate football? Sure, you might find it inconsequential, but for the 14 of us here it would be a lot more fun if you (and a few others) type out three words.

Are you sure you want to know?

1) I can't drive in Lisbon when there's "important"* games.

2) I actually almost ran over shirtless people twice in the same day, driving at 40 km/h (a perfectly reasonable speed), when they jumped backwards onto the street, without looking, because of an "important" game.

3) Football-related crap that's not actual games has interrupted interesting TV programmes more times than I care to keep count of.

4) When I was at University, an actually important exam was rescheduled because of an "important" game, causing me to have to rearrange my whole vacation.

5) Other crap I can't be bothered to write up, at the moment...

Trust me, I hate it a lot! :mad:

Uh, okay. If you find the idea of participating - even as a token gesture - abhorrent then I shall skip you when I'm assigning teams to random people. Actually, I think I'll prioritise people who have played in previous sweepstakes when I do. That makes sense!
