I think that for the XBOX360 that you can buy a cable to hook it up to a PC monitor if you didn't want to fork out for a full-on HDTV. The XBOX will output at 1280x1024 to a standard pc TFT. It wouldn't be 48" but it would save buying sometihng that you aren't really going to use and I'm guessing that you already consider the PC monitor to be good enough for gaming.
