Xbox 360 Headset Problem

I was playing online on xbox live tonight and when trying to use my headset the people I was playing with were moaning that I was echoing - so I turned off my speakers and even muted the mic - but it was still happening!

Anyone experienced this and/or know a solution?

A little googling hasn't turned up any meaningful results as of yet... i think i need to use different search terms.

spankyou in advance :D

Not heard of this, i've always had no problems with any echo, but, if it's you who is echoing then it must be someone else who has the problem as your 360 doesn't play your own voice back to you. An echo of you is caused by someone else having it playing on speakers which is then picked up by their microphone and plays you again to the system. It doesn't echo further because their echo isn't played back to them. It should of shown you who was talking and whenever you spoke it should of shown them talking as well, showing the person who was echoing.

Hope this is helpfull

Doesn't all VoIP on the XBox go through the headset's speaker, not the TV speaker? I thought it was clever enough that all game sound came through the TV speakers and voices through the headset?

If you mean that people could hear your TV echoing, than you must have had the microphone next to your TV speakers. Whenever I've spoken to people using it, I've had to turn the volume right up on my headset. If anything, sounds like you might have a dodgy headset. If we're around tonight, I might have a convo with you over it to see what's going on. Other than that, sorry :(

I'll be around tonight.

I have the mic muted and yet the little speaker icon saying i was sending sound kept coming up. Then I got told to "do one" by a scouser in the game room :)

So i unplugged it. Tried a few more times but the same thing happened...

Definitely sounds like a dodgy headset then. Had any pets/children/yourself/other/all of the above chewing on the lead or anything? We'll try tonight if I can get time, otherwise I'd say tell MS you got a crap headset with your Elite and you want a new one. Warranty and all.

Sometimes my headset used to echo, and sometimes I hear other people's headsets echoing. I've never worked out what causes it but it always just seemed random, maybe something to do with people on private chat or something silly like that.

elD, its not that clever :p

I was playing Halo 3 with my mate he had the headset, talking to his mates and listening, I could hear them mocking my deaths through the TV, so your theory fails

Right, double post, but sorry Trax, you're wrong :) So very, very wrong. It might have changed in an update, but I can pretty much (99.999999% confidence) confirm that I am right; VoIP over headset, game stuff over TV sound. SORRY! :D

But but... I experienced it .... or maybe theres a setting which allows you to have it going out the TV aswell ? who knows ... I just know that I've heard people talking out of the TV as well as the headset!

There is an option in the xbox dashboard that you can use to route the VoIP through either your speakers or just the headset when it is plugged in.

That being said, it appears to work randomly. I have it set to headset only, but hear voip through my TV on a regular basis. (It may also depend on when you plug in the headset, etc.)

We're kinda missing the point, though. Any luck with it yet, bloke?

well after a 20 minute support call to India's finest, (freefone number though so not bothered TOO much...) They are sending me a replacement headset as this one is officially "fucked"

Ok so I am now impressed.

Having been told that I would be receiving a replacement headset I get home today to find that a new one has already been delivered!

This amazes me because today is only the 3rd working day of the 10 they said it would show up in, and it was posted second class.

However the return address printed on the package for their repair centre is only a few miles down the road from me, so not too surprised about the time... just impressed with the level of service I have received so far.

Now to see if it actually works...
