So, if you havn't seen the news xbox have finally announced Xbox Kinect (Fomally Project Natal)

Project Natal sounded pretty funky IMO.

You still have the problem of no physical control surfaces. You will still be standing in front of a screen flailing your arms around holding invisible objects. Will hold off judgement on how good what theyve produced works until I get a chance to "physically" try it.

Natal was a name invented by techs for themselves. It's inevitable that we, as a largely technical audience, are going to find that sort of name appealing. I don't doubt that Kinect, as a name, was developed for the vast majority of the world who aren't so technically oriented.

That said, I agree. Bit of a pants name. Still, I thought the same of "Wii" (surely they saw the "smells like wee" conertation?).

I think the name makes perfect sense. It's a unique word that says "motion control device" without actually having to say it.

Theres a reason why buttons were used in gaming - its because all you have to do is move your finger a few millimetres. IF youre physically having to run to make some stupid character on screen do some running then why not....

GO OUT FOR A RUN?!

I'm yet to see any instance of this that would make me want to buy it. If I want to look like a twat in front of a screen I can do that without paying money for the screen to score my efforts.

Added to that it really is a very poor name.

I saw an article today which was talking about the fact that alot of people are going "no serious gamer wants to stand and look like an idiot in front of the tv", and I agree with this. It did however make an interesting point, what people are missing is the possibility for synergy between the existing control pad accuracy and the realism of Natal (I'm sorry, such a better name, who the fuck thought up Kinect). The suggested idea was something along the lines of a shooter where you control movement and target with the control pad, but could lean out around a wall using Kinect. It's certainly an interesting idea...

Additionally, I keep wanting to say "Connect 4" instead of "Kinect" - anyone else got that problem?
