Aliens versus Predator is getting a reboot for PC (and X360 and PS3). I've always had a fondness for these games as I love playing coop as a Marine against all comers. For that reason, I really liked AvP1 with its infinitely spawning Aliens in coop maps where both Marines and Predators could fight side-by-side. It was absolutely mad. I was really disappointed that they took that mode out for AvP2. Fortunately, this one is by Rebellion and they did AvP1, so I'm feeling hopeful.

Details are currently pretty thin. Release date is sometime "early" in 2010. However, Eurogamer have a couple of videos that are worth a watch:

I personally loved playing as an alien against marines in multiplayer, with the completely different feel that gave :) predators were also fun, if you balanced it by playing one pred vs many others. Shame that went down the drain in avp2 (which was awesome in sp).

so heres to hoping this one turns out good :)

AVP 1 was an AMAZING game. All kinds of innovations, and the terror and vulnerability you felt as a marine hasn't really been repeated since. AVP 2 sucked. Flat out. One of my favourite fps of all time, and all they need to do is update the graphics, and keep the gameplay exactly how it was. If this fulfills the promise of the original Ronin, I'll be covering your back, pulse rifle in hand.

Rojaws tells a story of a time when we were first going out. She was talking with a friend in the kitchen downstairs and I was playing upstairs. Then there was this almighty scream of invective from me, "You want some of this?! F**K YOU B**CH!" Of course, this was interspersed with regular, some might say manic, staccato of pulse rifle fire. I'd just been ambushed on a lift. That makes me twitch even now... :D

I wonder if it will release the same time as Aliens: Colonial Marine?

There's going to be too much of the Aliens goodness over the course of the next 12 months :eek: Especially as at some point we have Natural Selection 2 as well...

I wonder if they'll put the mech suits in the multiplayer on this one, like they eventually did on AvP2 after you patched it about 5 or 6 times ..

I think we can all agree AVP 2 was double mild weak sauce. The pulse rifle easily makes my top five FPS weapons ever list, and proably reigns supreme as number one. Underslung grenades for tight spots (and facehugger clearance). The marine is easily the best class in my opinion. You just can't EVER relax, or you're dead meat. It appears Ronin and I are kindred spirits in this, and I am now suitably excited that I can't wait for this to be released.

Is there a way to remove cookies? Because Tets clearly doesn't know what he's talking about! The only time i ever used the smart gun in multiplayer was when i was first playing the game over LAN and my mate wouldnt tell me how to use flares or the image intensifier. Smartgun soon sorted his cheating ass out then.

You always were an asshole Gorman...

Hey, now! I never said anything about using the smart gun in multiplayer (that special task is reserved for the hyperpowered sniper rifle), I just love stalking about with it in singleplayer, pretending to be Vasquez! You have to admit, the smartgun is cool as fuck.

They're all around us, man! Jesus ...

Well... I like the smartgun but I'm seriously in love with the pulse rifle.

Looks like we'll get to play with sentry guns, which are also utterly cool. (I guess they're sort of an unmanned smartgun, really...)

Ok first of all i loved Avp 1 to death. To the bitter end man. And there were some terribly bitter ends involving me trapped down the end of a corridor quickly running out of ammo as xenomorphs scurry forward after my supple flesh.

I tried loving AVP 2. But it was tough love. In the end i had to let it go.

This time round i'm optimistic. We got rebellion back which is good. Its published by Sega.... which is.... uhhh... not great from the stand point of making a game scary or awesome. Hopefully they'll shut the hell up and let rebellion get to work.

One small thing i noticed... just a tiny piece of info that been niggling at me.

Seriously what? Is this a typo? Surely we're not back on earth here? Even then Wylandi Utani abolish countries and all that crap anyway. You cant seriously be telling me the game is a prequel? Or some shitty game movie tie in? I thought is was colonial marine corps. Or at the very least USSMC stood for United solar system Marine corps. Segas AVP3 homepage states it quite clearly like 4 or 5 times.

I think i'm going to hurl.

"Christ. Some honcho in a cushy office on earth says go look at a grid reference, they dont say why and i dont ask. I dont ask because it takes 2 weeks to get an answer out here and the answer is always "Don't Ask".

I can't find any reference to USSCM. USCM appears to be the generally accepted acronym. However, its meaning does seem to be a point of contention.

According to this Wikipedia USCM talk page (about half way down) the Aliens film canon make the US stand for United States but the Alien: Resurrection canon would have that renamed to United Systems.
