If you get 7 you wont notice the difference, though i'd imagine even if you have xp you'll have inferior gfx hardware anyway?

There is nothing wrong with how the knife currently works in BC2 :/

Yes, rather than equipping the knife and THEN stabbing someone, you only have to press a button. But the delay between you pressing the button and the actual knife attack is significant - your timing needs to be spot on for it to work.

If the knife is something that i have to explicity equip, it's likely that it will never get used.

Do you own BF2142, in that the knife was like a sword, i remember we were able to get so many kills with it on a normal CQ server that other people started using it. Could turn a normal server into a knife server, and indeed people didnt bring guns to knife fights, oh the awesome times i remember where you drew your knife and it was like a challenge, people would draw even when they had ammo(im not saying they had a shot). On top of that other people didnt intercede in peoples knife fights either.

The problem atm (in BFBC2) is what happens when you press shoot while running, you stop running and shoot, and that while realistic i suppose also happens with the knife. Im hoping it goes back to the old way, but i wont be disappointed if it doesnt.

2142 knife fights were epic, as they decided starting teams they were serious business in clan matches. Shame as they weren't ranked servers for those matches that none of those stats show in the 2142 leaderboards.

We used to put serious time into knife practice. Also as you say you'd get grudge matches happening at random on maps where people would effectively duel. SOO MUCH better than the CoD style press button and knife happens

So... This is talking about people like you then thatbloke?

"While it’s easier to just hit a button and knife someone, it also requires a lot less craft and expertise to pull off. "

You can fire from the hip... you'll spray like some sort of handicaped sniper kitten though

If me selecting the knife, knifing someone, then selecting another weapon is to take as much time as it would do to just press a single button to do it, how is the requirement for having two extra button presses somehow a demonstration of further skill?

Knifing someone is about getting the timing right. I would not like to see it made complicated (and if it was, I'd likely just make myself a mouse macro to select the weapon, attack, then reselect another weapon for me).

You have to get BEHIND the person, you cannot stab someone from the side or from the front.

There for a knife kill is calculated so you have to get it ready and GO STAB YOU IN THE BACK MOTHER FUCKER.

Also when this happens you get a short cutscene of your death.

That's horseshit.

The timing on the BC2 knives is ALL OVER THE PLACE. There's nothing more annoying than lighting up someone at close range with an automatic weapon only to fall to their magic spring knife attack, except maybe LMGs and snipers who fail to move toards objectives.

Above all in BF2 and 2142, the knife was situational. Essentially only of use when your opponent didn't see you coming. The benefits of using a knife were multiple - Most of all IT WAS QUIET. You could get multiple kills on people hiding all facing the same way, far more easily than lighting one up with a gun and alerting the others to your presence. Knifing someone was a tactical choice, rather than a bullshit twitch move phenomenon.
