Still no word from Lucius and I'm now not about for the rest of the day. I assume he's made good on his threat to quit the league.

Hoverdog

In Cryo Sleep
My match with Panda ended 2-1 in my favour after some completely mad dice-rolling. The yhetee was stupid half of the match, dodging humans tripped all the time, and the number of skulls, double skulls and double both downs (for my unskilled players) was STUPENDOUS! There were five turnovers just thanks to those, and most of rerolls were eaten by blocks as well.
I started receiving, and did a typical 8-turn grind, making 4 KOs and an surf-injury. All sleepers were back in action for the second half, and Panda made some nice moves, scoring on turn 13, after my failed dodges meant I couldn't blitz the ballcarrier. In the end, a pitch invasion stunned most of Panda's players, which made scoring the final TD piss-easy.

Three level-ups, Ihsahn rolled 1+1, got guard, Neige normal - block, while Demonaz 6+5 :S are these elves or Bumzurs?!

Hoverdog played a good game, and got a lot of KO's on the first drive, leaving me in a very difficult position to defend, and scored, after putting half my team on the sideline.

Luckily most of them got up to start the second half, leaving me with only one injury. Hoverdog was making it very difficult to get blocks in though, especially with all the guard. His armour held up well all game, with only one injury the whole match (i think). As a result, it was my players that were getting punched in the face, and the norse armour is...less sturdy.

I managed to break through on the right flank for the score when I received the ball, but crucially, hoverdog prevented me from stalling.

The kick off result was a pitch invasion, which left 6 or seven of my players stunned, and only 2 of hoverdogs. He flooded my backfield with possible receivers, and there was no way I could cover them all, so I opted to try to blitz and put TZs on his thrower, which failed miserably. It was all over, and hoverdog had no problems scoring the final td to win it, leaving him and Narly Bird above me by one point on the scoreboard. A tight finish to D3 indeed. My norse will be in their cups.

To add insult to injury, the Yeti (useless the entire match, and most of the season), easily sturm and Drink's LVP, got the MVP.

And here is where I disagree with you on Orcs, I'll grant you that they are only a little bit faster than Dwarfs, so definitely are on the slow side, but weaker than Undead? No way.

In the long run (i.e. when you have managed to start skilling them up) orcs will have strength advantage, but as rookies they are not that much stronger than say, humans.
As soon as block and guard starts pouring in, orcs will easily have general strength advantage, but even then undead are not unlikely to be able to get local superiority (while giving everything else up, though ;))

LOL @ lvp!

Hoverdog has a lot of Guard on his team, so i would have backed him over your Norse any day. Its very hard for Norse to compete when out-guarded. And it sounds you were somewhat boned with the final kick off result.

And whilst Hoverdog and I are tied on points I think it would be fairer to promote him over me, seeing as I had an admin'd match, whilst he played all his matches.

Out of the box (ie. at tv1,000) i would favor Undead over Orcs and for a short time thereafter too. But once Orcs start getting skills then they will overtake Undead (around mid TV's). I still think Undead are a very good team though - they only really suffer at high tv's (1,800+).

League is over, as I didn't want to leave it trailing so close to christmas. I'll try and post up some discussion about promotion and relegation, but ultimately, it depends on how many players we have next season, and how many dropouts, divisions etc.

Ultimately i'm just not having fun in the game, and it stems entirely from the random rolling. I've played almost every other team in single player and in friendly multiplayer games, so it's not a case of not picking a team im good with or picking an inferior team - i just get crap dice rolls most of the time and it's clearly not properly random. I can only ever do ok in matches by stacking odds in my favour to the point the dice roll doesn't matter...

The way to win Blood Bowl is to roll less dice then you're opponent.

You had favourable odds in our match, on both D6 and 2D6. It's not always the dice. Trying to play a throwing game with any team just means extra chances to fail by throwing a ball when it could have been carried. Trying to play a throwing game with a team not really designed for it (like Norse) is just asking Nuffle to smite you.

It's been said by the others in their way, but this is hitting the nail on the head.

The only way to reliably perform well in blood bowl is to stack odds in your favor (or by playing AG 4 teams, which in itself is stacking odds in your favor), preferably so far that the actual dice rolls do not matter. Pretty much like chess.

What makes Blood Bowl fun (and sometimes unbearable) is that when one is out of options, one can throw some dice (virtual in this case) and hope for the best. Even if it often fails, it sometimes succeeds.

Moguai sorry I didn't see you about 12ish are you still up later tonight?

Velaphor, sorry for not being there, this time it is fully my fault.
I was unexpectedly visited by friends of mine, who I had not seen in months and I plain forgot about our match or even to say that I would be unavailable.
Mea maxima Culpa, I hope I'll be able to be more steady with my game times, once the new year and season comes around (hope is of course always the last to die)

A BB non-rookie that doesn't know what Nuffle is ?!

As for the Undead vs Orcs. I really think the Ghouls are a weak point in the Undead. Expensive and fragile. If they get hurt early on the team suffers. Orcs have an edge in ball handling too... low TV undead are faster... but beyond that I'd bet more on Orcs.

I'm going to be a bit offline until the 4th of January... I intend to bring a brand new team. Probably some elf of sorts.

Just checked out my Chaos team after the admin'd win. It turns out that MNG players can still get SPP if its an admin'd win. Wish i'd known it in advance or i would have sacked my AV7 MNG Beastman, before he soaked up another 5SPP. So now he's on 10SPP and so i decided to go with Dirty Player. I figure the ref will hopefully send him off before his armour breaks...

Lord Narly the Irradiated (my only Chaos Warrior) also levelled up, learning the all important Block skill. I was sooo tempted by foul appearance, but it will have to wait until the 2nd skill. I also got a wad of cash (i think it was both from the admin'd win and also getting cash for winning the division). So i bought a 4th reroll and a 13th player.

If i continue this team for next season i will add some more mutations, as i only have 3 at the moment. On the shopping list are a couple of prehensile tails, some tentacles and perhaps an extra head. :D

I know I'm still a bit new to BB but I love the Ghouls. Inherent dodge and good MA makes them great TD scorers and they are easily adaptable to different roles. My top player... a Ghoul: 4 TDs, 3 passes, 3 receptions, 2 KO's, 180+ yards running.. and now at level 3 with sure hands and +1 MA makes him great for scooping up the ball and running away with it.
I have another defensive ghoul with Block and Tackle, makes for a great ball-carrier blitzer.

So, yeah, I think Ghouls are great :)

Those Ghouls are what made the difference against me, tbh - I couldn't get hold of em and when I did, because they had dodge and I had no tackle they were weaving in and out all over the place and just would not go down.

...I mean aside from your ruthless murder of my Thro-Ra

(which I will have revenge for)

bitch.
