Blood Bowl League 3.3 Week 5

Those Ghouls are what made the difference against me, tbh - I couldn't get hold of em and when I did, because they had dodge and I had no tackle they were weaving in and out all over the place and just would not go down.

...I mean aside from your ruthless murder of my Thro-Ra

(which I will have revenge for)

bitch.

Yeah, they're nimble little buggers.

And, dude, you need to let him go. Remember him but don't mourn. He died doing what he loved, Blood Bowl.

As for the Undead vs Orcs. I really think the Ghouls are a weak point in the Undead. Expensive and fragile. If they get hurt early on the team suffers. Orcs have an edge in ball handling too... low TV undead are faster... but beyond that I'd bet more on Orcs.

I completely disagree with this. I think the ghouls are the strength of the undead roster. The ability to take MV 7 S3 ag3 natural dodgers (and four of them!) adds a lot of manoeuvrability to a roster that otherwise would be sorely lacking. Ghouls are no more likely to be injured than any other S3 player at the same armour value (less so, in fact, due to starting with dodge), it just feels that way due to all the other players having regenerate, and a lack of apothecary (the undead teams are definitely spoiled by widespread regenerate, and barely know what an injury is like...). You can put the ghouls where you need them on the pitch.

Marry this to the fact that the team also has access to 2! strength 5 negative traitless (excluding decay) players who start with mighty blow, and widespread access to one of the best players in the game (the humble, and oft overlooked zombie) and you get what is arguably the best starting line up around. The only other team which comes close is the orcs, who simply have a ridiculous starting roster also. Perhaps you could make an argument for dwarfs, but IMO their low MV is a brutal shortcoming.

You say the orcs have better ball handling. By this I assume you mean initial access to sure hands. In terms of mobility with the ball, the ghouls are far more effective due to dodge and better movement, though I guess the block on all the blitzers on the orc roster plays a part too.

For a competent player, the undead have EVERYTHING you could want, and are incredibly forgiving. The only roster I really feel is superior in terms of a blend of speed and strength is perhaps the necromantic roster (a little more speed, quite a lot less strength) and they need a little while to get up and running.

yea the Nurgle have a similar thing - if they kill an opposing player, there is a chance said player will come back as a Rotter for their team

For Necro, Undead and Nurgle (not sure about Khemri:S), if you kill one of the opposing players he will be resurrected as a Zombie/Rotter. But it won't do that if the killed player has:
- Strength 5 or more
- Regenerate (even if regen failed)
- Decay
- Stunty

Works for all other killed players though.

The other thing to remember is that at the end of the game when it goes to the winnings screen/match summary, it will then give you the option to "purchase" this resurrected player for 0gp. You have to actively click on the "purchase" button, or you do not get this player added to your roster.

I also have to say that the animation for when Nurgle kills an opponent is so cool. Tentacles come out of the ground to claim the dead player for Nurgle! Really awesome! Necro/Undead one is a lame kind of mist that appears. :(

If you play without closeups, the animation for zombiefication (which by bug is then turned to a skeleton post-match for undead) looks like a combination of a wraith and a nuclear blast. So I guess it's better viewed from afar.

Cool, thanks for the tip! I play as Necro in OCC, so will try and view from afar next time (not that i manage to kill many opponents).

Surely if the regeneration succeeds then you didn't kill them? ;)

But that would be why Xylak didn't get the option to keep the player as a zombie - the one he killed had regeneration. Also I'm not actually sure that the Khemri get this ability themselves...

Yea, Necro and Undead have the ability once per game. Nurgle have the ability if someone is killed by a player with Nurgle's Rot. (Which basically means everyone except hired Star Players)

Similar restrictions apply to all victims. And Khemri get nothing. :S

Well, I'm at a conference next week. But I'm generally hard pressed til February, so unless one of the other admins steps in, it'll probably be February. Halflings and goblins seem to be lacking:p

February actually suits me fine, as I am going to be hard pressed for quite a while. And I need time to decide, which team I'll hopefully be able to lead to the Div championship next season (here's to hoping that nothing brakes down or gets overthrown at the last minute and I can actually play all my matches next season)

Oh and I think I couldn't even be bribed into playing Flings or Gobbos, I like the semblance of order and control over the chaos of these two teams too much.
