You've probably herd of borderlands, they've bean pushing it pretty hard lately. Its some sort of FPS/RPG type thing, touting it's procedural weapons system. Its got four player coop and all that goodness, and steams got a 4 pack deal much like they do with l4d.

Any one want in on the purchase of a pack? The good discount end's when its out on oct 26.

I'll join you in that, you can probably get it cheaper than we can?

It's $135USD. The difference is minimal, as I would be paying in CAD anyway. My copy unlocks on the 26th though :p

They're playing it up as a proper RPG - random loot drops etc. The pull for me is that it seems to be a proper persistent coop game.

Ooh, I've been following this for a while as have quite a lot of the people I know. I'd be up for that 4pack thing :)

My concern is, however, how will the classes diversify - will they be unique enough to each get a specific flavour. Same goes for guns - they all basically just shoot stuff...

I haven't played L4D and this looks a lot like it, so perhaps some of you folks that HAVE played it would be better judges. I have played GA, though, which also features 4 different classes and I must say they all feel VERY unique, with a heap of special devices, skills etc. - having watched the trailer I'm uncertain Borderlands would satisfy in this sense.

TL;DR: on second thought (and viewing etc) this looks a bit too much like generic shooter without classes, weapons, enemies and goals diversified enough. Wait for GA :D

Right, Canadian retailers have pulled another Arkham Asylum and are offering the game for $30 off the first week it's out. I'll be nabbing this for xbox rather than PC, so count me out of the 4 copy deal :p

L4D's coop really fell flat once you got good at it, there just wasn't any depth. 4 characters that behave exactly the same, half a dozen guns, and only a few hours of gameplay to finish all 4 campaigns.

I really see no similarities here aside from having 4 characters, but in this case they look to be quite varied. I see deployable turrets, stealth, and vehicles in the videos.

Anyway, not sure where the comparison to GA comes in... That's an MMO, is it not? Besides, recommending a game you've played over one you've barely looked at is kind of silly.

Well, 4-member team coop PvE is a big part of GA plus it also has 4 different classes, out of which at least three seem to be very similar (basically engineer (turrets), rogue (stealth) and assault/heavy (the big guy)). Also having played it (unlike L4D) it's pretty much all I can compare it to (unlike to L4D)... Hence the comparison. In the same way I see similarities to L4D in the 4classes, 4players, swarms of enemies and emphasis on cooperation. Isn't that enough? :)

As for the flatness, indeed if this turns out deep I will be happy. I merely assumed that L4D had diversified classes and since people were saying L4D felt flat I figured this would go down the same hole.

Am I making sense? I'm trying to :)

All in all, I root for this game, but from the videos I saw of it I'm a little uncertain of the total outcome. Should GA come into this sum up, based on my playtesting of it I would recommend people to wait for it (GA) rather than rush into Borderlands.

Okay.

We have a group of people ready with this.

It works out at £20.25 (roughly) for the 4 pack bought in the UK.

If thatbloke, Angelic, myself and Solemn get one pack and sort that out, it leaves;

PsiSoldier
Dragon?
Xera
Ronin (provided that the other two slots fill)

Just need two people to fill the last slots and sort out buying that between you guys?

I was musing on getting this but didn't really want to pay full price. I'd cover a slot in a second pack if that was going, though I'd just leave it alone entirely otherwise.

It's definitely worth a purchase at the preorder price, and more than likely worth it at full price.
