Brink it on!

This thread is dedicated to Brink, an innovative free roaming multiplayer shooter (with some single player campaign that is supposed to be playable in coop).

Maybe you guys take a look at it and share your opinions on it.

For my part, I must say I fell in love with the game the minute I watched the "Freedom of Movement Preview" video. I feel that this might be one of the best games to be released this year.

It looks ok, but doesn't seem to innovate much at all. Mirror's Edge did all of this a couple years ago...

I liked how in Mirror's Edge when you saw an enemy you actually wanted to run away rather than fight. This game seems very gung-ho in terms of combat.

I like the art style, though.

This accually looks quite good. reminds me slightly of Gunz or somthing (Matrix style FPS). Might have to get this to see what it's like.

Just had steam yelling at me to preorder this and until that time didnt know it existed. Now I do I am totally in love with this concept.

Art style reminds me of the timesplitters series, a series i loved and adored.
Gamelplay reminds me of team fortress, one of my favourite team games.
Customisation (light, medium and heavy body types) reminds me of Tribes, my all time favourite FPS.
Thats a list of pure win. I now must have this game.

There are however 2 things they have to get right about this game for it fly in my opinion.

1. The AI. They've invented this SMART system (smooth movement across random terrain) which the player can use to navigate around, under and over crap. If the AI doesnt or couldnt use that system too then what the point even playing against the them in story mode. Yay i've jumped a fence and the AI cant follow me.

2. Gun/upgrade balance. Impossible to get right i know but with so much customisation theres going to be something thats OP. They've apparently set the game release time back a few months to work on it.

But yeah i remain optimistic and really want this game. Now.

(P.S soz for possible necropost but didnt want to make a new thread.)

Nice find and it looks very interesting. The only caveat is that the release date is likely to be early 2011. For those that want to pre-purchase be aware you won't be able to actually play it for a while.

You do get a shiney weapon, armour 'n stuff though, so worth the wait. :D

So Brink finally got its release date announced on their website today!

Its apparently the 20th of May which is a bit later than originally expected. Take this with a pinch of salt obviously as, while it is an official announcement, chances of it being put back are always on the cards.

I didnt think much of mirrors edge, its like complete 2 check points die 12 times on 1 check point, repeat.

Incidentally, they support centenarians lying about their ages, for shame!

To be fair mirrors edge was a free roaming mechanic (jumping, climbing, freerunning) following a completely linear level design. If you didnt do the level exactly as the developers wanted you to you got to redecorate the sidewalk 50 floors down with your lifeblood.

In Brink its a free roaming mechanic with levels designed specifically to make the most of the whole 'roaming' aspect of it. Also while the focus of mirrors edge wasnt to shoot people while free running (in fact if you did most of the time you got shot anyway) this game is pretty much all about free running whilst giving people gunishment.

The year is 2011. Games developers are still releasing games with male-only avatars.

Sigh.

It's bad enough in TF2..

Brink will be released this coming Friday (13th May). Its currently 10% off pre-order on Steam.

We will be running a Brink server once it comes out - early indication are that the linux dedicated server will not be available at release (See badman's post).

There is also now a THN Brink event for Friday - make sure you're preloaded everything before release date so you're not sat waiting whilst the rest of us play!
