Not much info out yet. Screens look pretty and it's hexes instead of squares. Snazzy.

Just like Apple fanbois when Steve Jobs so much as breathes, I shall be similar for anything Civilization or Colonization related that Sid Meier is involved in.

I expect I shall be parting with some of my hard earned pennies for this

Hexes make sense. Makes for a more natural map. Squares are easier, of course, but diagonal movement across a grid presents a problem for a point-based movement system (in that diagonals are longer than orthogonal connections).

There is a story on slashdot about this announcement - according to one of the comments on that story, EA and not Sid/Firaxis own the rights to Alpha Centauri so any new Alpha Centauri game would have to be done with EA's consent... and I can't see how they wouldn't want to bastardise it in some way to dumb it down for console users :/

That's probably why we haven't seen it be redone - they physically couldn't dumb it down without turning into Hello Kittie's Spaceship Adventures On Alpha Centauri
