Yeah watching that video pretty much sold me on getting it. It was either this or Ruse but i think its got to be Civ V.

I played the beta.... Demo.... Whatever ( dunno if you did) and I thought it was a hoirrible game. Civ v will be so much better.

Civilization is one of the few game series out there where a manual is still a damned handy thing to have (because a tutorial of any decent length would just put people off).

Thanks for that, Xarl. I watched the whole of that and I was totally glued to it the whole way through, not just because it's showing off Civ V but because I picked up a lot of tips about how to play the game. The game itself doesn't look like an enormous leap forward from Civ IV, but I think the refinements will make for a much slicker and intense experience. Although in a technical sense it's a step backwards, I do really like the idea of having only one unit per tile; the enormous stacks of units you shifted about in Civ 4 were horrendous to keep track of (and to operate strategically).

Well got it on pre-order. Should have it for friday. Though i'm pretty much out all weekend so cant put any effort in there till next week.

it hasn't done that for quite some time actually. and samsung's hdd check tool fails horribly on modern hardware
