Canada has nothing to do with Iraq or Afghanistan, it is under no threat but still they feel abliged to fight and get their men and women killed in action in a war which isnt theirs to fight

I see no supporting evidence or statements to the effect that your last post is based around conjecture, speculation and opinion only. If you cant do provide clear statements to that effect or accompanying evidence then we cant debate and I'll have to lock the thread which is something I'd rather not do.

All I have to say on this matter is that one man's terrorist is another man's hero. Don't get caught up in the hype of those around you, form your own opinions and you'll see that we (The Allied Forces) are just as bad if not worse that the Taliban.

Wow, Tbone. Youve FINALLY caught on to what I was saying about Hitler. Not that thats an excuse to have let him live or anything. There's quite a debate here about whether we should send troops to an Afghanistan province called Uruzgan. Many people are sceptical we'll end up doing jobs for the american command and not much of the "rebuilding" that's supposed to happen (because it stimply isn't possible with the stat Uruzgan is in). Add to that the unsaid arguments of anger over CIA prisons and general attitude of the United States, and you get the picture why we're not all that keen to go.

OTOH, it IS work that needs to be done, it's a bit of a mind bender. If we don't go, the British or Americans will probably end up there though, but that's not a very nice thing to do either.

Am yes, they are part of NATO, their army doesnt have as many troops as say as much as say britian, france or germany but it is still a significant army in NATO.

No flaming intended, just reinforcing what Haven mentioned, you cant say stuff like this and not say its your opinion, especially when it isnt true, the british didnt 'clear up'. Britian have not had it as bad as the Americans. The Americans have over 2000 solidiers dead since the end of the war and I think saying stuff like what you said is very disrespectful to these soldiers.

And the U.S. army is not made up of just marines, the marines are an elite section of the military. Also they did not just 'waltz in and bomb everything'. The U.S. army is a very proffesional army, and yes it has been publicised of the mistakes made by them and that all their soldiers are 'trigger happy'. But think about it, America is the only superpower at the moment, you need a very good military, which carries out operations well, not all the time, but well to have that status.

Perhaps Gopha infered that the Taliban were re-gathering strength in such a way as to require the reinforcement of 3000 odd men.

yer that was the original beggining of the post, so that the troops have to get sent to Afghanistan to reinforce the ones already there.
