Pish... all talk. Does Holland even have 1000 troops?

We're a nation of 16 million, and we have an army size relative to that, all up to date with elite units, navy, subs and airforce, but no nuclear technology or long range weapons i think. Military industry includes facilities to build highly advanced non-nuclear subs, and high tech optics, amongst other things. We sent 1200 troops to iraq, one or two of them died iirc, but not from terrorist attacks.

Regarding the mission to Afghanistan, if i had to place bets i'd say we're probably not going.

Regarding Israel, it's got nothing to do with Christ, but everything with a western backed powerful nation claiming land and establishing itself, expelling the original inhabitants, the palestines, to the gaza strip, the west bank, and abroad. That sort of thing doesn't go down well with the people and the rest of the nations in the area, you see.

As for Hamas, they've said they will be mature and responsible in governing, they have a lot of credit with the people, if they put off their former methods and focus on their new, political task, and it looks like they will, i don't think it's that bad at all. Leastways the Fatah party had no authority left and under their rule corruption in the palestinian goverment became widespread, it's good they at least have been voted out of power.

Am yes, they are part of NATO, their army doesnt have as many troops as say as much as say britian, france or germany but it is still a significant army in NATO.

In other news, the US commander in Afghanistan said the dutch troups would not be on a peace keeping or nation building mission, and likely see combat with the Taliban.

Personally i think that's a remarkable display of honesty on his behalf (the whole interview was), it's certainly nice to hear this from a US government official, especially after earlier threats with economic sanctions should we decide not to go. I'm not kidding!
And it only strengthens the arguments for not going. I'm okay with peace keeping even if it means fighting now and then (more troops to Africa, please!), but not this.
