Darkbattle is a web-based game where you play as the ruler of a planet... the aim is to become the #1 planet by increasing your score through gaining resources (through asteroids) and through nicking other people's asteroids.

This game is completely free, and is very similar to a game I played a long time ago called Planetarion (which eventually sold out and started charging people to play).

This is a fun little game as people get put into galaxies of 6 people and can ally with other galaxies, etc for defence/attack purposes. The latest round of this game has just finished and sign-up fo rthe next round will be opening soon. I was thinking perhaps THN could make a couple of galaxies in-game and try to take down the main players in this game... :D I think It would be fun.

A round lasts for 3000 "ticks" with one tick being half an hour. this leads to about 2-3 months per round.

As so many of us are online all the time i think this could be fun and we could be a really active alliance and also depose the 2 best players in the game as the best players!

Have a look at the manual (bearing in mind it hasnt been updated for a little while) and see if you think you may enjoy it, post here if interested and we can go on from there :)

Hey people I just want to say that sign-ups for the next round of this game are opening up in about 5 hours... Is anyone interesting in creating a galaxy within this game??? (that would mean 6 people are needed).

You will need to wait till after 6pm GMT today to sign up. I can tell you all what to do... HOWEVER!!!

I would ask you all NOT to sign up until I do, unless you know what you are doing... simply becaue you will be put into a random galaxy and NOT with us lot... Due to work commitments I will not be able to sign up till tomorrow, but if you DO sign up without me, the FIRST person to sign up will need to create a private galaxy. Once you have created your planet and been put into a galaxy, you will need to get the galaxy password, which you will need to give to other people so that they can join the same galaxy.

To do this, you will need to make yourself the galactic commander (GC) of your galaxy. Go to the politics section (which will be one of the links on the left) and vote for yourself as the GC. You should then have more stuff appear in the politics section, including the ability to make and edit a comment which appears on the overview page for all galaxy members and also the galaxy password... which I would post here so that anyone who wants to join our galaxy can... :)

How many people applied for DB now then? If it's still under 6, I'll join the THN gal :D

Right then... I have just registered! Simply put, you need to go here and register. I would like to ask you to use this link as it benefits us all with in game bonuses if I refer people... All will be explained. Unless you are elDiablo you will need to go and create a Darkbattle community account (he already has one from a few rounds ago...). Then, you need to think up a name for your planet. This name is in 2 parts, the ruler name and the planet name, and is in the folowing format: "[ruler name] of [planet name]".

There is also another option that you have when you join the game... to be either a "Good" planet or an "Evil" planet. This choice can be important as it leads to some slightly different ships and bonuses. If you are good then you get a small resource bonus and access to a particular branch of the tech tree. If you are evil you get access to a different branch of the tech tree and then get a small reduction in production time...

It's good to have a mix, though the ships you get on the Good side are generally considered to be slightly better...

Once you have dont this, you then need to select the "join a private galaxy" option and enter in the following password: 5160e0e19b8c6

You should then find yourself as a proud member of the galaxy located at 5:16!!! :D

btw I will probably get a housemate or 2 to join us too...

now it was a while ago when i originally registered but IIRC you are asked for a password when you create an account... simply login with your username and password even though you have not yet recieved the password.

Indeed, looks like we got 6 in the first gal now so its full... if you read the forum post i have made in our gal it offers some initial advice. This game has the facility to create alliances of 2 galaxies, so I will make an alliance for us so we can take over the world!

This now means we need a candidate for GC of the second galaxy. To make a new galaxy you will need to register as usual then create a new galaxy. You will then need to follow the instructions i made in a previous post to get the galaxy password so that other people can get in, BUT in addition to that, you will need to go to the preferences page in-game and tick the box to make the galaxy private so you do not get randoms joining it :)
