[i40] Foodage

Hello everyone,

As the event is drawing ever closer certain decisions need to be made and this can be a fairly big logistical one for certain members.

The question is what do we want to do food wise, when there has been smaller numbers of us the call has always been either Vibs or myself cracking out the little BBQ and rocking some sausages, burgers, bacon and eggs through out the event.

With so many people this becomes much much harder to achieve on the cadac. Also with Vibs being carless it is unlikely that we will be able to cadac it up. Vibs may wade in at this point and say that it is coming regardless in which case we are going to be BBQing to some extent.

Just want to get the vibe of all you fine folks as to what you want as event is looming close and organisation has to happen and the like.

I'll be baking a few bits and if anyone has any specific things they like to bake that'd be awesome. I know both Wol and Vibs are dab hands when it comes to making delicious things and edge can whip up food when pushed.

If anyone else is up for baking then rock it. Things like cup cakes and even biscuits work very well.

I don't plan to do much in the way of food production nor should need a lot in the way of food on site, except in the evenings, but I am happy to help gather supplies by way of my car.

As I'll be travelling on/off site each day and passing by Tesco on my way in (M3/A34 junction) that'll be fairly easy for me but it'll be on my timescales (i.e. don't expect breakfast by 09:00 or anything if you're relying on me being there to provide the ingredients).

Guess my advice would be "plan ahead".

I'll be bringing stuff for me for the weekend, but cant be bringing massive amounts of tubs/cakes as itll be two people in Liz's tiny car to bring up so wont have loads of space.

Dont know what people do about drinks. I generally feed on lemonade but don't fancy carrying in a load of bottles at the start. @Ronin: Would you be able to pick up this sort of thing in the morning / in the car, or is this something its worth getting in bulkloads for the whole box instead? Would probably go for the latter.

BBQ definitely does sound awesome.

There is a sainsburys less than 5 minutes away in the car (I haven't walked it but I would estimate a 15 min walk).

In addition, there will be the on-site restaurant, and while it's not always the best, they will be offering the same delivery to your desk option that they had at i39. (this option includes delivery of BEER to your desk too btw)

In addition there will be a plethora of takeaways, certainly for the evenings.

For breakfast, I know they will be doing a fried breakfast in the mornings but its not that good quality and after 4 days in a row of the same crap every morning it gets a little bit annoying :D

Ideally I'd like to see them offer a cereal option for breakfast, otherwise I may have to zip down to sainsburys cafe in the mornings and get breakfast there (or somewhere else).

Obviously, the most economic route would be to buy in bulk in advance but if you haven't succeeded at that then I can pick stuff up on my way in. That'll probably be around 11:00/12:00, knowing me. Or I can make a mid-afternoon run to grab something but I'll be looking for wingmen for that if I do.

I'll be hunting down a cheap café for brekfast (Unless we can get sossie sammaches made on site.)

Also: Any -major- large-batch-foods / drinks / sweets, my offer of grabbing stuff from Bookers is still open ( I think there's a search option...just look for BA1 4HH, and thats my closest.), I'll be heading there on the 20th of August (Next month) so if you want anything from there, I'll need to know by then (BEAR IN MIND! Coke from Supermarkets MAY be cheaper.).

I'd love to do a massive BBQ, but unless we can swing Trax's dad's mondeo then there isn't going to be much room. If we CAN swing the mondeo, then we could possibly do something involving an oil drum....

We have a Mini BBQ if It helps..It's about...2 or 3 ft by 2 or 3 ft, Is that big enough?

Vibs' has quite a few options regarding which BBQ comes, it's more dependant on boot space :p

Not for 20 people gombol...

I have a choice of about 7 different BBQ's, but the only real option for 20 people is a oil drum. I'm unsure if newbury will let me have this...

well we dont all have to use the same BBQ do we?

Surely common sense says that, if gombol can bring one which is 2 ft square minimum, and vibs brings another one the same size, then each only has to do 10 people, rather than one doing 20?

The appliance of science, I like it. Also bear in mind that Trax is bringing his PC, so we're up to three barbeques.
