To be fair, I'm not that bothered. It looks like an awsome much better venue, but only if they retain clanboxes and rock band!

They really need to get this clanbox possibility checked out ASAP. I'm fairly sure it's what's causing most of the umming and ahhhing at the moment, and would be a deciding factor for me.
Simply putting up dividers won't do - it's not about separating ourselves from everyone else, it's about having our own little space, a home away from home. I just don't feel a warehouse-style venue like Telford would feel comfy and homely enough.
No more nerf battles in the hallway; no more sitting out on the balcony chatting in big inflatable chairs; no end rooms for Munchkin. From the experience of Stoneleigh, the warehouse makes people feel less accountable for their actions. In a smaller space like Newbury, the idiots throwing things and generally being OTT can be spotted and picked out, so it tends not to happen. However, in Stoneleigh there were constant projectiles about, knocking over drinks etc. You couldn't pinpoint where things were coming from, and as such, people acted up.

I can only hope if Telford does go through, it's only for the summer LANs. This way I can just avoid the summer LAN and do StratLAN/iLite instead.

I agree on the clanbox concerns, however (and I cannot find the specific posts/mentions of it but) I do believe that they have mentioned that there would be an area designated for tabletop games and the like, and I'm sure we could come up with a tent village or an outside area where we could sit - ok it's not going to be RIGHT NEXT to our seats, but still, the break from our PCs will still be useful, regardless :)

Admittedly cool story bro. I think the general consensus is it's not preferable but not going to cause the end of the world.

At the request of a couple of people i've added a poll at the top of this thread now, if we need any more options then let me know :)

Note that I've made the poll votes public, so if you'd rather not vote, then don't.

With the poll constrained to i43, I'm forced to choose a no option. However, given a wider scope I would have chosen "Yes! I don't care where the LAN is as long as I'm with THN".

Being non-committal as I am I would say it's "Yes! I don't care where the LAN is as long as I'm with THN" but I would strongly prefer a "clanbox" style area.

Although, I have never been to a non-clanbox i-series or witnessed the non-clanbox areas of an i-series (apart from B1 at i42)

My vote is actually the top two answers - I really do think that Telford sounds like a better venue than Newbury, certainly for the summer LAN.

However I'd go anywhere, assuming some of you lot came too :)

:S Have i missed something there?

Uhm...?

I can't afford to monies at i43. That is the same unless it moves to within reasonable (<1 hour) driving distance of York so that I can stay at home but travel to i43. Even then, I may still not be able to afford it.

However, a some future iEvent, Telford works better for me because it's more than an hour's travel saved and, being more populace in the immediate area, likely better for accommodation prices, etc.

Or have I missed something?

I forgot the fact that you're failing and not going in the first place. The original question is based on the "I'm already going to newbury for i43" assumption, and what moving it to telford would do relative to that.

The "travel time/costs are now too much for me" option you chose sort of rang in my head as "I could make it to newbury fine, but now its an hour closer, and likely to be cheaper means that I can't make it", which of course makes very little sense when I read it like that!
