Got this a while ago. Been addicted ever since too. And the MP server code has just been updated, so will be looking into that soon! \o/

I have Minecraft too. And I believe I've figured out how to stop zombies spawning in my base (lots of torches).

I ended up doing that for my deep mining operation until I realised it was caused by insufficient lighting in branches in the mine.

By the by, how deep do I need to go to get decent ore to make pickaxes that last more than a few minutes? I'm probably only 30-40 layers deep, really, but I've only found iron ore so far.

We spent 9 hours or so solidly playing last night, and in that time, Pwnstar managed to hit bedrock at the bottom of the map, and the skybox at the top. It takes a long, long time to dig down deep enough to find the really rare stuff. I've only found one diamond ore rock so far, and it was consumed by lava in the process of me trying to get at it.
Hopefully as you keep going down you'll run into a pre-formed cave. Usually they're full of minerals - as well as mobs.

Once you hit bedrock, if you go up, say, 3 squares, and then along, you'll find a fair amount of caves. Caves with lava and water. These are your life blood.

However, for Ronin, Iron is what you will use most of the time. Diamond is the most rare ore in game (at the moment), and I've only ever had enough to make 1 pickaxe and 2 spare pieces. So yeah, Iron is probably your best bet! Just keep a couple spare. If you are mining, stay to single space mine shafts. If you are expanding space, it's expensive to do...

Yeah, I'm probably being too inefficient, though I'm also working primarily with stone pickaxes that burn through very quickly (though, of course, I can afford to carry 8 of them...). My main mining shaft is 3x3, though, not 1x2, and is stepped. I guess I could go vertically but then I'll need to carry a bunch of ladder pieces... or just use the jump-and-place method... but then I'm putting back stuff I need to mine away again. :p

I usually do a 3x1 step method. You require 3 so that you can jump up to the next level. Excluding ladders, this is the cheapest way down.

Edit - Also, going straight up or down scares me as I've done that straight into lava on more than 1 occasion...

I tend to be a fancy dwarf and craft stairs everywhere, as I'm too lazy to jump around. Also, the amount of rock I've mined out then allows me to continue building my castle above ground :p

I was too addicted to this until i found my second monster spawner, got ROFPWNED by 4 skeletons and so tried to get my stuff back which was met with more arrows. Now i just scowl at it for now. Im sure ill come back round to it so i can build my sky fortress!

I tired to make a second base in my game, behind a waterfall and i have a massive cave lots of rare ore. It was perfect! the i found about 12 skeletons raping through my cave and fucked me up. Now i can't find it =[ im so lost in this big world!

I decided to buy it but can't download it - I log in and go to the download page which then logs me out. When you then click login it takes you back to the front page ... rinse and repeat :(

Anyone else have issues downloading the game, not sure if I get a copy emailed to me after purchase or not ...

Turns out it's possible to mine around the bedrock into the blue light and fall out of the world. Unpleasant, let me tell you. Especially since that means all the stuff you had equipped and/or in your inventory is lost, because you can't reach the blue hell AND COME BACK :)

EDIT: Oh yeah, it's called the Void. I dunno, it's the blue hell to me.

a note to people who are interested but have not yet bought the game - theres a sort of free weekend going on as notch had to shut off the name-verification part of the server. try it while you can!

Minecraft got way too popular for this humble server. I've had to disable everything fancy to even get it to run. It went down on Saturday, September 18.
It will probably go back to normal on Monday, September 20.

If your launcher is giving you download errors, please update the launcher by downloading the latest version from this page.

The following things do not work at the moment:

* Registering an account
* Purchasing the game
* User verification for online servers
* Sounds and music for new players

The following does work:

* Actually playing the game
* Player skins

Until this all gets sorted out, I'm officially calling a "free-to-play weekend", or however long this will take to fix. You will need to have a paid account to play it later on when this gets fixed though.
