The trio of heroes comprise of a sports star, a scientist and a female journalist.
The lead hero survives a tribal trial of passage but is still jailed. He subsequently escapes only to be betrayed by his rescuers. However, they regret their betrayal and become a great ally.

Lord, you must get it or I may have to make it easypeasy

Also has a scene featuring a midget on a leash.

How could I not have figured Flash Gordon?!? That's almost the second best film ever! :D

What do you mean "almost" and "second best" - this is one of the greatest movies of all time! It has everything. Action, adventure, love, betrayal, rockets, lasers, bad acting, cheesy dialogue, wobbly sets, dodgy effects and, best of all, Ornella Muti in some very very tight clothing.

There are so many obscure and interesting facts about this movie.
The cast is fantastic as it links James bond to Willy Wonka - Timothy Dalton (James Bond) and Deep Roy (the midget-on-a-leash who was all of the Oompa-Loompas in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory). It has an early appearance by a very young Robbie Coltraine (the stating scened were filmed in Stornoway). Plus Blue Peter's Peter Duncan, the ever-wonderful Richard O'Brien, the bloke who was Dirty Den's cell mate in Eastenders (he was one of the Hawkmen).
I could go on for ages!

Also one of the best, cheesy lines in any movie ever "Flash! Flash! I love you but we only have 14 hours to save the Earth!"

Damn this film is wonderful :)
