This will be the thread for our newest fort. I'll keep track of the current status in this post. As a reminder, here's how things work:

  • Every player has one week to play their turn, starting from when the save is posted.
  • The player must post in the thread and "claim" their turn within 24 hours of the save being posted.
  • If it comes to be your turn and you know you won't have time to complete it, you can defer to later in the lineup instead of claiming.
  • If a player misses either of those deadlines, their turn is forfeited and will be passed on to the next person in line (who then has 24 hours to claim the turn and one week to complete it.)
  • Some slight leeway with these deadlines is possible, but it will be measured in hours rather than days.

I'll be running this using the newest available mayday graphics build (31.21) Remember to set [AUTOSAVE:YEARLY] and [AUTOSAVE_PAUSE:YES] in your d_init.txt if you're starting from scratch.

Current Lineup:
BiG D
Traxata
Xarlaxas
Ghostwolf67
Ronin Storm

If anyone else wants in, just shout.

1st Granite, 251
We've arrived. Not a bad looking site, though a little cold for my liking. The frozen pools around here will be deathtraps when they thaw, so I'll have our diggers place some ramps on the sides.

3rd Granite, 251
And the digging of the fort proper begins.

8th Granite, 251
The world stands still for several seconds. When everything resumes, all the ice has melted. Looks like the pools near the entrance and the brook to the north contain fresh water. The pools to the east are saltwater, so they won't be all that useful to us.

15th Granite, 251
Plenty of ores here, including aluminum and gold.

13th Slate, 251
So my planned dining room appears to be right in the middle of some rather deep clay. Certainly not a fitting location for any dwarf. It'll do for now, but someone should likely relocate it once we know more about the area.

23rd Felsite, 251
We're pretty much all moved indoors at this point. Bedrooms and some more storage will need to be dug, but we can also start working on some walls and such outside.

9th Sandstone, 251
Trees had grown in such a way that the depot is inaccessible. Something to keep an eye on in the future...

21st Timber, 251
Some merchants arrive. Trade for some leather, prepared food, an anvil, etc. Request weapons, wood, and military type stuff for next year.

Super uneventful winter. We're in good shape, but should start thinking about a military. Currently no fuel for smelting, so that could become an issue as well.

Well, a nice, quiet sstart is a good thing. We'll see how long it lasts though.

How many cats and dogs do we have roaming the fortress?

Dunno offhand, but that does remind me of something. Either it's a new bug or something changed with how you need to care for large animals. Basically anything bigger than a dog seems to be ignoring things like eating and then subsequently starving to death. So that should add an element of fun to the whole thing :p

Thats pretty cool. It always made no sense to me how the animals just hung out at the dining hall food tables. I mean surely its got to be awkward sitting thier eating the a cows parents when its standing right there... staring that awful cow stare.

Awesome, but now the animals need to eat grass, dammit. That means keeping them outside!

Poor elephants and their inability to eat enough to live. That's quite a defect. . . .

arse biscuits

The save file corrupted as DF crashed, ;/ nothing eventful happened during the year, apart from maybe a wedding and a nut case.... I don't know if we should just pass it on or if I do it today / tomorrow and catch back up? It'll only put me a day over... thoughts? :/

Hehe, aye, I was going to mention that but thought that BiG D would know his own mind better than I do. ;)
