I started up a new game in the current version as a warm up...

lots of dwarves went crazy. Lets just leave it at that.

My deadline is this-coming Monday aye? I'll hopefully get most of my turn done today and Friday. :)

Dwarves going crazy sounds like the best kind of fortress Ghost!

Anyone got anything they want me to do while I'm holding the fort (har har) apart from getting fuel and setting up a military?

I'll probably suck at the military aspect but will do my best in setting it up.

Yeaah..... there was enough stuff to sell to the humans to buy all of their stuff off of them (food and a lot of cloth bundles....)

I kind of missed the elven caravan so you'll have to have a look into that one yourself.

I had after buying everything off of the humans about 600? foods
and had the dwarves making fine meals out of it all. ... shame the save fucked itself :(

Well, I discovered that there were already some walls in place, but not quite finished, so I did that.

Also starting work on a big dining room by the sleeping areas and will add a big food stockpile above it. :)

17th Slate 252

Migrants arrive! Good timing considering I'm expanding the living areas and the dining room, 42 dwarves altogether, sadly two are useless children.

12th Felsite 252

Catten Athelkulet the Glassmaker has withdrawn from society, I do not believe we have glass-making facilities, so I fear for the fortress. . . .

As expected he's gone stark raving mad. I think that's not so good. . . .

26th Timber 252

Lokum Baseneral has been possessed, oh joy. At least he's claimed something that might work.

Ah-hah! He has created Shorast Onshen: The Wire of Chanting.

This is a saguaro rib scepter. Decorated with birch and encircled with bands of chestnut. This objcet menaces with spikes of saguaro rib wood.

Oh boy, the lack of water in the winter seems to be resulting in a bunch of the dwarves dying of thirst.

On the other hand, several children have been born!

Alright, Spring is here!

By the end of things we should have enough living quarters built/in construction to last us a while.

We've got a squad in training, not sure how well equipped they are sadly, and I've also got a ridiculous complex of walls being built as per Ghost's request!

Set up a small pasture with nest boxes for the egg-laying types.

Maybe we could try getting some bees and make some mead?

I'm worried by how little farm-land we have and the rather serious issue of Dwarves dying of thirst during the winter.

We also need to build a hospital.

Save should be up now:

1 Granite 253 (Start of Spring)

Was waylaid by bandits on the road here. Almost didn't make it. Here now, though. Experience with bandits makes me think that we shouldn't be going outside the fortress so much. Hunting, trapping and fishing summarily banned.

Food stores: good. Alcohol stores: crap. Why is all the rum gone?

10 Granite

Snow melted. Water available again. Need a supply of water that doesn't freeze. That'll be my main project for this year, then.

26 Granite

Workers trapped on top of walls they were building. What fuckery is this? I order stairs to be built to let them down. Also, southern wall abutts hillside; invaders could walk straight onto the wall top. Doing something about that too.

1 Slate

Migrants? This place is in a shambles. Half a mind to gulag the lot of them.

6 Hematite (Early Summer)

Elven caravan. Trade for lots of wood, some cloth, some seeds and bits of booze. Sell useless rock tat.

Workdwarves keep getting stuck on walls. Keep having to build scaffolding to get them down. Currently fortress is wide open for goblin rape. Got drawbridge at front, at least...

14 Hematite

Bronze Colossus Imiwa Thevalomepa Apacacorape has arrived. I don't think he's here to trade. Indeed, his name as "rape" in it. We're so screwed.

18 Hematite

The militia engage the colossus. They're fairly butchered. Civilians are confined to the fortress. Drawbridge is closed. Still need to seal the back wall... Also, snatcher arrives. So don't care if he steals children.

25 Hematite

Migrants. Outside the walls. They can try their luck with the colossus.

7 Malachite

Militia dead or dying. Migrants sneak in while I let the Elven caravan out. Colossus camps corpses. Keep finding holes in outer wall. Who designed this thing?!

15 Galena

Human caravan arrives. Colossus seems to be frozen in place. Open gates to let caravan in. It doesn't move. Maybe it's actually stuck? Trade for wood, food, booze, some other bits. Busiest I've seen the fort in a while.

15 Limestone (Early Autumn)

New squad in training. Using pools to irrigate loamy cave for underground farming. Colossus is moving, but only to stand over bleeding/dying corpses of previous militia (who still haven't actually died yet, but are totally incapacitated). Farce.

11 Sandstone

More migrants. Colossus is still corpse-camping. We'll sneak them in.

6 Timber

Disaster! Last of the militia outside died. Colossus rushed fortress. Broke in through some gap I hadn't sealed. Massacre. Drafted three squads. Hopefully they'll deal with it. Or die trying.

21 Timber

Tried various bits of walling places off, sealing doors, etc. All in vain. Colossus smashed vertical bars, giving access to flooding passages. Tried building walls. Tried telling Masons to just fucking build walls. All in vain. Colossus smashed door leading into inner fort. Massacre occuring. We had nearly 100 dwarves. Now just over 20, half of whom are fatally wounded. Can't get anyone to respond to basic orders...

22 Timber

Oh, now it's inside, they put the walls up now...

1 Moonstone (Start of Winter)

Okay, the monster is sealed inside, but so are most of the remaining dwarves. Just to add to the fun, a Mason responsible for sealing the fortress is now trapped in the outer courtyard because he can't reach the lever to open the drawbridge. He'll have to deconstruct his way out. 14 dwarves still alive. I reckon 3 will survive now.

5 Moonstone

Desconstructing plan doesn't work. Can't deconstruct walls. Fortunately, someone alive inside was able to open the drawbridge. Two survivors outside. Neither has a pick...

I need to sleep now. Frankly, this is a total wipe. You're welcome to the save (still got a season to go) but I don't see much benefit in me wrapping this turn up except as a reclaim. Thoughts?

Seems like things were in pretty bad condition when you got there? I see dead dwarves everywhere in that map. If you'd like to found a new fortress or reclaim that one I think that's reasonable.

What I'll do is let the fortress implode and do a site search for a new one. I've not got time for another full year just now but I can hand over a new site ready to strike the earth.

Ok now i'm totally glad it skipped me. I'd have handled this waaaaaay worse than ronin.

And lets not forget i've already had the turn in the previous game where a giant shows up to kill us so i think i deserved to not have that happen again.

Hard luck Ronin i blame distinct mighty wall deficiency in the fortresses diet.

PS: MIGHTY WALLS!!!

So, welcome to Iddolush, also known as Rockborn.

Sorta disappointed that my previous overseership ended so catastrophically, so I decided to actually launch into this new place with a chance of building us safety for the future.

1 Granite

No messing about. Straight into the earth with us. There is a flat region at the foot of the valley where the river flows, and then some very steep cliffs. We'll dig into the foot of the hills in the valley and work up from there. Not much wood, but enough to get us started. Going to design with security in mind from the beginning, though we'll probably have a season go by without having any serious protection.

27 Granite

Dormitory is dug, with two doors and beds. This'll be the guardroom later, but it'll serve dual purpose for a time.

1 Hematite (Beginning of Summer)

Almost completed digging out the initial fortress. Soil to the north made that a bit quicker, as planned, and should provide a site for the first underground farms using the pool drainage for irrigation. Shortly should be setting up the first dining hall.

25 Malachite

Promoted the expedition leader to broker and the doctor to chief medical dwarf and book keeper. I realise the doctor probably shouldn't be doing all that, but we're shorthanded just now so he'll have to stretch to it. Besides, he's not doing anything else of any use except hauling stuff, just now.

Got the dining hall set up and pulling everything inside quickly. Just got to pull carpentry and the wood pile into the rock and then I'll have space to drawbridge the main entrance and we'll be pretty secure.

2 Galena

7 migrants have arrived. Let's see what we've got here... Frankly, the fish cleaner seemed like he was going to be a total waste of space, but it turns out he can turn his hand to just about any cultivation art; he can stay. Fairly useful lot, all in all, and no horrid children to make a mess of things.

Oh, by the by, the "peasant" Kib Ilidlogem has been brought along for his fighting skills; fairly basic, so far, but he'll be heading up the militia when we get that started. Having said that, the otherwise useless soapmaker is also a bit of a military guy. They'll have to collaborate.

19 Galena

Drawbridge at front gate, protected by channelled and cleared pit at front so that an attacker can only access bare rock when the drawbridge is raised. I feel safer. Not safe, mind you, but safer. Lever is in the north west corner of the dining room.

18 Moonstone (Winter)

Traders and the liaison arrived a few weeks back. Been busy trading, digging, flooding, etc. Underestimated the quantity of reservoir space we'd need. Made a bit of a mess but nothing serious. Two 5x5 reservoirs ready for wells.

Stone-fall traps cover the main entrance, with more being added back to the first doors. Needing more furniture storage space so expanding to account for that.

Also need dedicated rooms now. Population 22, but still in barracks.

5 Opal

A Potter has been possessed. Bones and leather and skin, oh yes. Or no, in fact. Claimed a craft workshop. Guess he'll be going berzerk...

24 Opal

Very late in the year, but underground farming is now underway. Four plots on various rotations covering much of the underground crop possibilities. Still need some above ground plots, probably near the pasture outside the main gate, but that should be constructed after external defenses.

18 Obsidian

As predicted, the potter went insane, though fortunately not berzerk. He'll be hanging around the dining room spouting gibberish, I guess. Started work on major extensions for living quarters, workshops and storage piles. Avoiding vertical shafts as much as possible due to problems in defending them. Suggest future overseers use ramps and buffer zones with drawbridges between levels.

No military in training yet, partly because we need the civilians out of the dormitory / barracks-to-be. Once they're out, some beds can be removed and the barracks will be ready to go. Need more real bedrooms, though.

1 Granite

And Spring is here again. Bedrooms are still being carved from the rock. Food and booze supplies are sufficient for now. Suggest my successor focuses on civilian accommodations, training a military and getting smelting and weapon manufacturing underway. Current population is still 22, with no injuries or casualties.

Oh, water source is now the well in the underground farms.

Save and map to follow shortly.
