Id choose Radiohead ... if it were there. Maybe Blur, but Blur are a bit pop-ish to be classified as full out rock. Maybe.

It's an impossible question for me, so many groups with excellent material, it wouldn't even fit into a poll.

One question i can answer, the band with the most rocky sound of all rockbands has to be Peter Pan Speedrock for me.

If you make a new poll you ought to throw Led Zepplin in there.

And I second whoever suggested Radiohead.

I always thought of Radiohead as being closer to grunge than rock. Surely, if we're looking at rock we should be considering such classics as Queensryche, AC/DC and, as already mentioned, Iron Maiden.

In that list, Metallica's either heavy metal or nu-rock or maybe blues rock, Led Zeppelin, while providing roots for rock, have much more rock n roll or blues in them, and I'm pretty sure that the Red Hot Chili Peppers shouldn't be in a Rock list... :)

Isn't it a requirement for rock to have power chords, mullets and castrato lead singers? :D

I'd have a non-exclusive list of:

  • Iron Maiden
  • AC/DC
  • Queensryche
  • Guns n Roses
  • Aerosmith
  • ...

... and maybe I'd thrown in Deep Purple and Led Zepplin for good measure. ;)

We're not arguing. We're debating. We're taking the theme of the poll and looking for interesting ways to recast it but still trying to hold to the topic. It's quite a laugh, actually. :)

We're not arguing about it. We're having a friendly chat about what is best in the world of rock.. NOW, Metallica still clinchs it for me. I agree that the chillis are more of a softcore version of rock but who cares? They have still made some very good songs, including By The Way and Californication. So, in my books they qualify for being a rock-ish group. :D

I think Radiohead are unfairly labelled as 'grunge'. That's just based on Creep. Anyhow their recent stuff is more electronica, and their good stuff (OK Computer, The Bends) was more prog-rock.

I remember the Manics used to get annoyed when they were called Indie. :)

And if you want to be picky about it, wouldn't you class Iron Maiden as heavy metal?

Now a true rock band would be Bon Jovi. :D And maybe Meat Loaf. Haha.

I'd rather have my funk-rocking Chilli Peppers than my hard-rocking Meat Loaf. :p

Yeah, maybe Iron Maiden could be in the heavy metal category.

However, Bon Jovi should have made it on my first list. You're quite right. Power chords? Yep. Mullet? Well, he used to have one. Castrato? Not quite Steve Tyler, but he's getting there.

I thought Iron Maiden was more power metal. Wasn't Led Zeppelin heavy metal, albeit before heavy metal was really established as a genre?

Why isn't The Darkness on the list?
