The Future of our Raiding Part 3.

Yo Yo Yo b-boy snake dogg g,

Well, it's time for me to make the official post on the future of where raiding will go for The Haven but before that it's time for a little reflection. Back at the start of wrath we were doing 25 man's successfully with usually only two people coming in form outside to make up numbers. Naxx 25 was successfully on farm and everything was looking peachy. Then people got upset. The people I needed to get in in order to do these raids tore the guild apart due to selfishness, impatience and non-understanding on the parts of a lot of people. What happened then was a mass exodus of about ten important raiding people who were with us during the golden age of raiding in TBC away from our numbers and as a result we were unable to do 25 mans anymore. This was a sad day and the bottom line is that I got the blame for all us this. I kept it all to myself and tried never to show how much I was hurt by the way a lot of people turned on me but the truth is I was close to quitting the game when my exams came up but there were a few people (around 10) who kept me going. I don't want to thank you all, lest I turn this into a Kate Winslet acceptance speech, but thanks very much to Midge, Razaak and Zooggy.

Anyway, raiding kept going doing a ten man a week, Ulduar came out and we got a few new people in by word of mouth alone and the numbers required we start to do 2x10 man groups where for the longest time one wouldn't get very far in Uld and the other would go to Naxx and feel very bitter towards those in Uld even though they needed the gear. Again, a case of people being a bit lazy and selfish. I had the long term plan of two succesful groups of 2x Uld10 by the end of September and I feel in general this has been achieved even though something usually unlucky happens to one of the groups but the point is it could be done. This wasn't arrived at succesfully as I had to once again set about a way to fix our raiding. I decided, as you all know, to take three weeks out of the raiding calander to make it so that that I, and at least 9 of our best people knew how to do Ulduar. The result was that we cleared everything in the first week except Yoggy and were able to repeat the feat once more. This is now what we do every week. Again I took a lot of flak here again from certain people who were being lazy and selfish and felt they were better than they were and that venture wasn't necessary. However, I think I have now proved it was and earned the trust of most of those people.

The same thing happened when ToC came out. I waited a few weeks as I wanted to focus on Ulduar which, again was necessary but I got pestered by everyone, the main argument being "Well Ashen Order has done it...". So we went in and destroyed the first two bosses and people gave up when the third encounter was difficult. So once again I "still unpopularly" took a select group of ten people to do the faction champions and, look what happened, we got them and the next two bosses down first night. Now, two of our groups faceroll this place on a weekly basis and the time had come to return to 25 man raiding.

Now, I had hoped to get one this week but just didn't have the numbers and we had to put people onto alts to fill spaces and wouldn't have the members to do it. So we can keep trying to get it every week but the point is that we need the numbers. Now as I mentioned before last time we got new people in it caused problems I want to aim to avoid that but we need at least one more main-specced tank and about 4 main-specced healers and 2 or 3 main specced DPS. We are going to be recruiting through the official forums and through trade chat every now and again to get these people but if you know someone that fills the cap...get them in.

So the long term goal now is to get the 25man groups going by the end of January but hopefully beforehand depending on how well recruitment goes. I also want to point out we will be starting with Naxxramas when we do this as not everyone seems to remember/know the difficulty jump and as a method to help us with this issue I have recruited a new officer who will be my official second in command. His main duites will be helping those of you who are under performing to achieve your full potential however, do no expect him to be all nice about it. He will be more like a drill sergeant than a matron and this alone should make you want to do better before he makes you do better. He will argue your guesswork with mathematically proven fact and put you down hard if you resist. I should stress that this doesn't always mean doing more damage, but sometime raid utility. For example, the demonology warlocks crit buff, the unholy DK's spell damage buff and the arms warriors bleed debuffs, which are all needed in 25 man. However, do not think for one second that if you play one of these classes you get to fall into this nice to do subpar damage, this is not on, you will be useful and at the end of the day that is what both we, the raid, and you, the player, should strive for and want.

As a side note in 25 mans there will be no loot system. I have being doing it in ten mans recently and we used to do it in our 25 mans. where loot is distributed evenly across people who can use it to gear up the raid better and special cases will be given to regular attenders and my decision will be final when this happens. Again, this is for the benefit of the raid not people and it encourages people to run dungeons to gear themselves up not wait for raid drops and qq that your gear is worse because you haven't put the effort in.

Anyone, you have been/notified warned and I'll be happy to address anything you may have to say here as long as people do not turn this thread into a flame war as has happened with the ones before. I WILL delete posts who do this. Also the game.

Cheers,

-- The Unbreakable One

Biggest "YAY" ever. Just hope this drill sergeant isn't some crappy old-school-loving needs-to-get-with-the-times rogue or something :D
Really REALLY looking forward to 25mans again, I'm a happy man Mr. Bone, thank you.

One question...
Why do we start with 25 man Naxx? Most of our raider have Uld 10 man gear or even better gear from ToC 10 or even onyxia.
I think it is safe to say we can start with 25 uld? Correct me if I am wrong :)

( btw in my world you've always been very popular Tbone :P )

I guess that's not because we need to gear ups but because it's a good place to get used to the 25-man gameplay and teamwork.

Also, yay. Can't wait till we start doing this :)

Hey, :)

You're not wrong, but you're not right either.

For one thing, we'll have little to no control over the level of gearing of our new recruits.

But most importantly, teaminess (as defined here) takes practice. :)

Cheers,
J.

While I haven't raided with you guys for 6 months, I've been reading every forum post that's been going up.

The empahsis on your above post is mine, and therein lies the problem.

There's no point in carrying people through instances they are not yet ready for, and also, the team spirit needs to be brought back up to a good level before you start the hard stuff, otherwise fingers start getting pointed and all kinds of horrible stuff starts happening, and that's when people start getting in a mood and leaving, and it's never good when that happens. In fact I'd go so far as to say that that exact thing nearly broke up the guild a few months ago.

As for the now, with new people coming in, the guild will need to start off with the easier stuff to make sure that the people coming in are right for the guild and that the guild is right for them. The Haven is very unique in its style of doing things, and also for sticking with that style through thick and thin. For that, the guild leadership should be praised. During what has been referred to numerous times as the "golden age" of raiding for the guild, everyone who was taking part in the 25-mans had been raiding with the guild since the guild got serious about raiding, so there were no issues about people coming in and not liking the guild or its way of doing things.

WotLK changed that because Blizz dragged their heels with getting the endgame stuff in and that caused alot of people to get bored and leave (myself included).

hmmm. I seem to be going on a rant here, I'll stop there and apologise to the current WoW officers if they feel that what I am saying is total bollocks.

Also the game.

Damn you!

That said, I must say I agree wholeheartedly with this plan and have the fullest confidence in T-bone. I'm positive we can pull this off and get back to the days as awesome as when I got into the guild during the BC days. (hopefully including more portal roulette! :) )

I would also like to use this opportunity to apologise for my rather low attendance lately. I'm getting distracted by some other hobbies (painting wargaming stuff mainly) and am not very motivated for raiding. However, I´ll continue to level my Mage soon, and that should get me a bit more pumped for some more endgame stuff as well.

One last point: will any healers with a DPS offspec also be required to do this setup and advice stuff for that spec in case we're needed offspec? I don't have any problems with it, but I was just wondering.

I think getting the teamwork and teamspirit in 25 man Naxx will do us good, when we get used to eachother and the content we can venture in to ulduar. Wat you wrote Tbone sounds Sound :p

Im glad to read you are still with us through all that happened over time. Its important to keep focus in hard times even when it gets a bit too rough

Okay, naxx 25 here we come :)

Btw I had the same question as marqo. 'Will any healers with a DPS offspec also be required to do this setup and advice stuff for that spec in case we're needed offspec?' Just like marqo I don't care if we get advice and I will try to change if I do things wrong, but I was wondering about it aswell

I would guess, Marqo and Elincia, that yes, your dual spec will be double checked and tested. There's no point agreeing to raid as a second spec if the guild needs it, only for your second spec's gear to be gemmed/enchanted incorrectly, or for you not to play that spec to it's (and your) potential. However, I would assume this will be prioritised alot lower, there's going to be enough people's main specs to check first!

Main specced tank reporting in,

I will be playing again from the last week of oktober. This will mean I will be raiding at least every 2 weeks and possibly more. The return of the Nactall took a lot of time. It will also take another few weeks because I just got a new house and will be moving. This will not be taking long where with a lot of ppls so aprox 1.5 week.

This said just try to recruit a main specced tank anyways, never a bad thing to have one spare :D

Be aware!! Da return of the Nactall is near again

Yay! Good to hear you're gonna be a bit more active, nicnac.

Btw, can anyone recommend a good guide to playing retri, as it seems I'm doing less damage than I should be with my level of gearing, and I'm wondering if it's something about my order of casting or something else, and I'd like to remedy that (I don't want to fail on my offspec...).

I must say that this is awesome new for me! I have been waiting for some 25-man action for some time and I like to do everything with guild(hate PuGs). And because of that this will be one of the first 25-man raids ever for me, well a few OS25 here and there but that's it.

So Naxx-25 here we come! :D

PS:
Pls do not delete the game :p

This could be a more productive thread without the accusations ya know.. Who is lazy and selfish, and come to think of it, how does that even apply to a game?

Anyways sounds like it's very much turning into the type of guild I don't wanna raid in (sorry!). I play for fun, and try my best for the team; which I can manage fine with a gentle nudge if I'm positioned wrong (cos I haven't done a fight before), rather than rather disrespectful sounding "drill sergeant" orders barked at me. If anything that would just wind me up the wrong way, been playing too long to be talked down to.

Who is the new officer out of interest?

Also, the loot thing could be good or bad depending if you are biased towards people because of how you feel towards them personally. I trust you will remain indifferent :p

I'm the new officer, no ones talking down to anyone. In the raids we want progression, every raider wants to see all the content and be able to better their gear. Currently theres a fair few problems with this occuring such as DPS not being high enough from all characters and such, i'm here to fix it so that people can take the most out of their class and help the guilds progression. It's fairly easy now for Every DPS class to pull out 3k single target DPS unbuffed using just Heroic and new badge loot, so i'm going to make this happen.
