The next Battlefield game

I guess that depends. If it's just a reskinned bf2, fall is quite realistic...

Look's like Mech Warrior a bit - anyone remeber that?

I tend to agree with Phatbambi on this one. BF2 is excellent because is simulates a battle that could take place now with weapons of today, so there is an element of realism when playing.

Sci-fi games rely too much on conjecture of what the future will be like. However in saying that this leads to a lot of creativity yes, with made up weapons, vehicles etc.

I will certainly buy it but even if it was released today, I doubt if it would take my interest away from BF2

Anyone else see this as a direct attack by EA on that Unreal game coming out soon?

shame we wont be here to see 2142 in real life

Speak for yourself. I've got my cryogen-pod booked already. :p

It looks quite good, but sci-fi is a very dangerous territory for Battlefield to go - it is now directly competing with Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, which I reckon could kill off 2142 if done right. Given the way that particular game is shaping up, it's definitely possible. Until then, I'm keeping an open mind.

I think 2142 wont be that different from now... Think what people in the 60s thought that 2001 would be like :)

And from the looks of things, they're playing it safe. Nothing real groundbreaking, mostly ballistic based weapons, etc.

I'm actually expecting a similar jump from BF2 to BF2142 as was from BF1942 to BF:V -- in other words, they'll probably refine the engine slightly (remember we got foliage in BF:V) but it'll mostly be a new weapons and maps pack with updated models.

Well i think its basically just the exact same as bf2 except they have changed what things look like. In the trailer many of the vehicls had either similar or exact characterists as the ones in bf2. Its a cool idea but they need to do work not just fanny about with micrsoft art to change the colour of stuff. Damn lazy bums!

Been thinking a bit more on this and I wonder if it's not just going to be a professionally produced "mod" of sorts. Of course, if that's the case and it's a full priced game...

hmmmm i'm not sure i'll get it straight away, but i'll probably get the demo when it comes and judge it by that... The thing with taking a futuristic setting means that they can do what the hell they like with it, so it should be a bit easier to balance correctly...

I can understand why they do it. It must be incredibly costly to develop an engine to only use it for one game. Unfortunately I think the engine they are using will be outdated by the time this game comes out and they could end up paying the price for not developing.

We shall see...

i really don't care if the engine is outdated or if the graphics suck as long as the game is fun to play...

I don't care if it is outdated, but it HAS TO ACTUALLY WORK ON RELEASE!!! *goes into an EA rant*

Very true, I think EA should really be careful with this release, if they make this game as buggy as BF2 then they are going to get really unpopular. And anyway I think Unreal tournament 2007 and EnemyTerritory: Quakewars will be the next big things in online shooters, if the BF series wants to go anywhere then they really have to do something new, did you see the press release? Its got all the features of BF2 such as commander, squads etc. theres nothing new apart from its setting.

Yes well i'm cautious of this game, if it's gonna be a quick money-maker for EA then it probably won't be worth it, especially with an EA price tag. In my opinion, Activision are a much better company.
