Well it seems I have two matches to report on. I'll report on the one just played against Narly though first.
Before the game, I'd lost two rotters from the previous week, but decided to use the winnings I'd made to get a 4th Pestigor instead. So I had just 11 players.
I ended up kicking off to start and the way the kickoff went entirely summed up what was to happen in the first half...
Despite selecting somewhere in the middle of Narly's end my kick not only went exceptionally wide to the left, landing next to the touchline, but it additionally didn't even cross the halfway line. So he was able to simply give the ball to his rearmost thrower.
I was then on the back foot instantly as Narly was able to smash down the entirety of my right flank and part of my centre line, and in addition keep them down and out of the way, leaving me very little cover.
Due to the small amount of cover and the insane amount of yellow dice Narly seemed to be rolling, he was able to roll the ball over the line for a TD in (I think) turn 4.
1-0 to Narly.
I then received, and after a the crowd got a bit rowdy and went for the ref, awarding us both a bribe, the ball landed near one of my rotters.
I then managed to do precisely no damage whatsoever to Narly's line, and then on attempting a pickup, failed horribly. Narly again seemed to have the dice gods smiling upon him, and was able to flatten about half my team, additionally causing a KO on one of my Pestigors.
To cut what was a long, drawn out half (from my point of view!) short, Narly kept at least half my team on the floor consistently so I was unable to do much about him passing the ball down and getting one of his gobbos to score just before half time.
The second half starts and it's 2-0 to Narly. We were joking about how my dice had been so bad and about how my luck MUST be about to turn...
I received the ball and an instant upturn in fortune with my block dice allowed me to knock some of his guys to the floor, and after successfully picking up the ball and moving left-centre with it slightly, was able to make a very large hole on my right (Narly's left) to send a rotter carrying the ball through.
Some frantic defence from Narly saw him get a couple of peeps near the ball carrier but then it seemed that my half time ploy of tying his player's shoelaces together was starting to come to fruition as he then started causing turnovers by failing some dodge rolls. After managing to injure a player and make enough space for my rotter to get through, I scored on turn 12.
2-1 to Narly.
The game then resumed, with Narly receiving. He caused a turnover very early in his first turn after the restart here, again, I think, due to a failed dodge, and this allowed me to instantly put pressure on his line and eventually ended up with a sort of semi-circle formation where the ball was in the top-right as I looked, with every player arrayed on the centre line near the right flank, moving in an arc up the centre, about halfway into Narly's half.
The game then turned into a brawl after Narly's thrower was unable to pick up the ball and I was able to smash my way through and get some pressure on the thrower. A bit of back and forth and a player each being stretchered off (and one of Narly's being red carded) eventually left me in a situation where on my last turn I had the ball on the halfway line, and just had to use my beast of nurgle to move 1 square, push a thrower out of the way, and then I would be able to walk the ball up with the rotter that was carrying it and hand it off to a pestigor who was within range and unmarked to score.
So I initiate the blitz, and for the first time in the match the beast of nurgle fails his stupidity roll (despite the +2 from a nearby teammate).
So then I'm left with needing this rotter to make a single successful dodge with his AG of 3, and make a GFI roll, and then successfully hand-off to the pestigor.
The dice gods were smiling, and I was successful in all of these rolls, and on turn 16 made it 2-2.
Narly then got some beats in on his final turn but was unable to score in a single turn so the game ended 2-2.
All in all, a very fun game, and most definitely "a game of two halves".
