THN BB L4 Week 1

Panda with issues...

So, week three, and the midway point:

Matchups this week are:

Stormclaws (Ronin Storm) vs Suck on this (Panda with issues...)
Trax's Nitwits (Traxata) vs Electric Mucous (Narly Bird)
Scarpeak Ravangers (Ghostwolf67) vs I can't think of a name (thatbloke)

This week's matchups are redolent with fairness, with both the heavy teams matched up against each other, and the light teams less likely to suffer heavy boot in mouth.

Game one could be interesting, as neither Ronin's rats or my Vamps can take any punishment, but are both agile enough. Could come down to bloodlust rolls, and I've got the feeling my vamps don't much fancy the taste of rat blood. Could be a long day for the thralls... The Stormclaws are missing a thrower with a trashed knee, but have enough cash to potentially replace the gutter runner that has been missing since the preseason 'accident' at the hands of the Ravangers. Suck on this will also be receiving a journeyman lunchbox, but have all 4 vamps available for once.

In game 2, we have a definite case of beauty vs the beast. Trax's elves face off against the ugliest team in the league (and that's saying something), and Electric Mucous' coach doesn't improve the picture either. Nevertheless, they're sporting a deep roster, whilst a linelf is missing, and should be tough for the elves to handle, assuming they can bear to put their hands on such foul creatures in the first place.

In the final matchup of the weak, we have the two leading teams facing off against each other, ready for a right good punch up. The Ravangers are missing a beastman, and will be out for pus against these upstart devotees of the Father of Pestilence. I cant think of a name (probably due to brain cancer, or at least virulent beastman flu) will have to settle with just good old regular tainted blood in what should be a stunning spectacle of aggression.

I love these intros. :)

Assuming that very late isn't good for you, Panda, I suggest either Wednesday evening or next weekend. Either of those work?

Hi Trax,

Im uber busy with work and am working long hours and weekends at the moment. Which means late evening is all I can do. Late evening Japan time would be something around 13 to 15gmt. If that doesn’t work then I may have to forfeit as I just don’t have any availability.

I was mostly attracted by the money, women and fame that comes with being a chartered accountant. But damn if you don’t have to work hard.

Sunday I should be able to do - I'm viewing an apartment (read flat) at 12:30 GMT though.
Apartment sounds so much better than flat. Even though its the same meaning. Is that just Australian English or English English too?

How long do you think the apartment viewing will take? Also, whats your steam name? Its much easier to hook up if i add you as a friend. Mine is "narly_bird" i think? Or maybe "narly bird".

Anyway, try to let me know in advance when you think you will be available so that i know what time i should log on.

Mine is simply traxata, apparently trying to add a friend on the mobile steam is not so simple...! I think the viewing will last about 15-20 minutes then double that at least to get "home"

Just added you as a friend.

I will hang around a while doing this or that, but will likely go to bed in about 45 mins or so. If your not on my then, i guess you can have the admin'd win.

Great incentive to show up for the match, hey!

The crowd was thunderous and showered the two entering chaos teams with praise, abuse and severed heads. As the two brutal chaos teams marauded onto the green they beheld their opposites. While anger festered in their hearts they had to admit begrudging respect for the enemies works and dark deeds. Knowing they shared a common ancestry the warriors held back their full fury. There would be no injuries this game.

The opening kick to the Ravagers saw it sail throught the air and bounce precariously to the sidelines. An over eager beastman running to grab it failed, kicking it off the pitch! The throwback had it land right in the centre field scrum but on the nurgle teams half! What followed was a brutal punchnig match where the ball was failed to be picked up 3 times by both teams. Finally with a hole punched in the lines the Ravagers were able to recover the ball on their drive and score turn 6. 1-0 Ravagers.

In turn 8 before the half the beast of nurgle lost his temper and KO'd a warrior who was not to recover for the rest of the game.

Second half was a game of head to head scrum. Nurgle forced hard on every front but the Ravagers refused to budge. Another warrior on the ravagers fell to KO but the choas started returning the favour, taking out a rotter KO. As Nurgle started its puch in earnest a fallen journeyman beastman in the scrum made a tackle from the floor surprising a ball carrying rotter with a KO and taking the ball from him! Now locked in a desperate struggle for survival the journeyman made his way out toward the goaline. A Nurgle warrior put him down in his tracks but it was already too late to stop the push. As the Nurgle lines crumbled a chaos warrior scrambled for the ball and even a last ditch blitz that dropped him couldnt stop the TD. 2-0 Ravagers on turn 16

Was a great game with bloke with some honestly comical moments. The dice burned us both first half (i'd used all my 3 re-rolls in the first 3 turns and still had turnovers) but the dice gods truly smote bloke in the second half with some horrendous luck. No injuries was both a good and bad thing. It meant we got to keep our players healthy but had no way to lvl up our key smashing players.

Good game

In a match that was pretty much as advertised, Suck on This matched up against the Stormclaws to round off week 3. Suck on This managed to destroy not one, but two teams in this game...

I won the toss and elected to kick, eager to put the nice defensive boot into Ronin's squishy skaven. The kick ended up essentially on the line of scrimmage, off to ronin's right flank. The short kick caught him with his pants down a bit, and he was forced to try and line up some players to protect the ball and attempt to pick it up. Ball handling was neither team's forte this game, and as he attempted to pick it up with the sure hands thrower, he fumbled, and the ball bounced through both surrounding gutter runners and a stormvermin before landing in my half of the pitch (something like 4 consecutive 1s on the dice). I lined up some thralls for potential snacking, moved in a vamp to try and hypnotic gaze away one of the two TZs on the ball and failed (didn't manage a single hypnotic gaze all game), then blitzed with my S5 vamp. Splatted the gutter runner, dodged away from the other, grabbed the ball, and dodged away again back into my backfield, journeyman thrall went out injured with a Badly Hurt on a bloodlust. So far so good. Ronin started to use his agility and some considered blocking to put pressure on me, but I see the potential for a lovely, creative bit of play, all it needed was a single 2+ dodge with a vamp with the dodge skill. Promptly failed, leaving me exposed.

Ronin uses this opportunity to surround the ball carrier, ruck up and extract the ball and picks it up. Things are a mess in my backfield already, and I blitz the ball handling gutter runner, seriously concussing him, and the ball again bounces around, ending in a mess.

Couple of turns go by like this, but ronin gets a few nice stuns, and I my guys are bloodlusting everywhere (can't STAND the taste of rat blood you see) and eventually clears the ball and buries it in the endzone. 1-0 to ronin's rats.

It's my turn 5 to receive, and I know I have to score fast, the vamps are slow as hell, and I need to make serious progress up the pitch. Both of us have lost players, and neither can field a full team. The skaven have the advantage, due to the high MV GRs. Blitz is called on the kickoff, ronin buries one of my vamps in 2 gutters and a stormvermin. I manage to badly hurt another gutter runner, pick up the ball, make a handoff and switch flank, rotating to my left, away from ronin's blitz. Lots of bloodlust going on, but lots of injuries for the rats too, leaving the pitch looking sparse, but the teams reasonably even. I'm running out of thralls, and ronin is just running out of skill players, with his thrower out with a badly hurt too.

Eventually, after burning some rerolls, and desperately managing to avoid bloodlust, I get the ball in the endzone on turn 8, and finish the half. 1-1

Both my KOd thralls wake up for the second half, and ronin's BwB are useless, as all he has are injuries. I get the kick, it's short and to my left. I arrange thralls and so on to cover/provide bloodlust insurance and go to pick up the ball. It actually turns out that the best move for me here is to make a short pass to a more secure vamp on the inside of the formation, and burn a reroll doing so. The push starts, with ronin using his superior mobility to try and frustrate me, despite is lack of players. I'm thinning out the rat ranks as quickly as I can, but every time I put one off the pitch, I'm losing thralls to injuries/KOs from bloodlust. Ronin bogs me down, and I'm forced to revers towards the right hand side of the pitch, where my last remaining 2 thralls are. Ronin puts together a nice blitz on the ball carrier, but makes his only error of the game, choosing the defender down on his 2DB rather than use the both down (his stormvermin had block). This meant he had to push the vamp before extracting the ball, rather than leaving him and the ball near three of his players (2 gutter runners). The ball magically lands in the hands of one of my vamps, and I prepare to extract him, pushing a lunchbox escort up the pitch first. - Good job really, since he bloodlusts the blitz. I make the block, push my way out from one TZ and dodge out of the other, then head for the delicious blood sack, putting him off the pitch. I'm now down to 4 vamps and one thrall, and ronin now has the same number of players as me.he lines up two GRs marking the ball carrier, and makes a nice dodge and blitz, extracting the ball deep in his half, and it lands in the claws of the gutter runner. I have no rerolls left. I line up 2 of the vamps on the triumvirate of gutters and SV, and make the blitz from the floor with the ex ball handler. He promptly fails his bloodlust roll. There's no way he'll make it to the lone thrall, so I make the blitz, extract the ball, stun the gutter and get sent off the pitch. Advantage ronin.

Ronin picks up the ball with the other gutter runner, and moves him to the centre, where he assists a block on the last thrall, KOing him. I now have only 3 players left on the pitch, all vamps. Ronin attempts a -2DB on a vamp and fails.

I blitz a vamp, and can only push the gutter runner, due to dodge, and push him into the waiting arms of another vamp, who makes the reverse block, and extracts the ball. The ball goes through another fumblethon, eventually coming to rest behind the scrum in 2 of roinins TZs. There's nothing for it, I've only got 1 turn after this one, and I get my last vamp to grab the ball, dodge out of 2 TZs and make 2 GFIs to ensure ronin can't push me out of range of the endzone, all without rerolls. Phew. Ronin marks up the ball handler with the previously stunned gutter, then tries to put together a plan. He has a stormvermin on the floor within blitz range, but the vamp has S4 and dodge, and a 1DB isn't a great prospect. He attempts to dodge his other SV out of the scrum into the centre to assist for a 2DB, but fails, rerolls and fails again, badly hurting himself in the process.

It's all down to this. I need to pass a bloodlust test and make a dodge to bury the ball in the endzone in turn 16. I make it. 2-1 Suck on this. Ronin fails a pass on the kickoff to end the game.

Poor old ronin played a good game (especially his second half D, with very few players), but his team was devastated. He only came away with 8spp (the mvp was on a concussed gutter who will almost certainly be cut) since all my injuries were done by my hungry vamps.
