So it begins...

The dawning of a new, small day for THN Bloodbowl!

Week one matchups:

Ronin Storm 'Stormclaws' vs 'Scarpeak Ravangers' Ghostwolf67 (Game of the week)

Narly Bird 'Electric Mucous' vs 'Trax's Nitwits' Traxata (Heroplay central)

Gombol 'Grimgor Smashers' vs 'Suck on this' Panda with issues... (There will be blood)

We've got some stolid constipated play in the season opener and game of the week between the Stormclaws and the Ravangers. Coach Ronin Storm, even with skaven is sure to take up his full 4 minutes every turn, probably doing nothing offensive, whilst the Ravangers couldn't catch a cold, run a bath or throw a hissy fit.

In the second shocking matchup, we get the dynamic play of Narly's unknown underworld squad vs the usual expected ridiculous play from Trax, multiplied by the ridiculousness of wood elves.

In the third matchup, there WILL be blood. There's high likelyhood that the dwarfs will punch out ALL the thralls blood, and subsequently the vampires may well not be able to control themselves. Could go either way.

Ideally we can get these done by next weekend, though we can be flexible.

Considering gombol doesn't seem to be around, does anyone else fancy some bloodbowl if he fails to return? I think I should be able to sub out his team if necessary.

Bob? Thatbloke?

Nice pre-match writeup!

@ Trax, my availability is pretty poor. Or at least, i am available almost every day, but at bad times for you (I imagine). The best time for me is 13gmt or thereabouts. I don't suppose you would be able to play at that time anyday?

Also, does your team have a treeman? Because i've always wanted to kill a treeman with a Gobbo, so this could be my chance! :D

My availability is also pretty poor :D

I'm in GMT+1 now, (moved to Denmark) I work from somewhere between 9-10 each day to 6/7/8 in the evening. I can't really get away with playing games while at work :p

Any other suggestions?

And no.. no treeman. This is a team from BB:DE that got imported into LE I'm not sure they're going to be particularly great :p

Bummer. This could be hard to organise. So what are good times for you then, other than being unavailable from 9:00-1900? I'm guessing evening your time?

The tranquil snowy pitch at Doombluff stadium belays the carnage that is about to descend upon it as once again the planets have aligned and its time for another Blood Bowl brawl. The ratty wit of the StormClaws face the marauding complete lack of wit of the Scarpeak Ravangers in a textbook Fist Vs Fast scenario.

The first drive the Ravangers is a slow and steady ham-fisted assault. Its 3 turns before the ball even crosses the halfway line but by the time it does already a skaven linesman lays broken on the sideline whistling through the new gaps in his teeth. Their advance however sees them suck down re-rolls and soon they are left without any for the final push. A foolhardy block with both downs as its results leaves the ball carrier exposed to a restling gutterunner who strips the ball on the goaline! At turn 8 the ball lies in the hands of the rats in their own endzone. Using an all or nothing punch a linesman is decapitated and the following desperate blitz knocks the ball off the pitch and places it in the hands of fate as to whether the first half will be goaless. The ball lands within a horns stab of a beastmen. With no re-rolls and no more turns its a pick-up and risky hand off to get it to the endzone. In a shock move the beastmen show surprising mental fortitude and the ball changes hands for the first TD in turn 8. 1-0 to the ravangers.

The second half sees the Stormclaws finding their feet and using them to run really really fast. The rats take the ball and push down a flank with everything they've got. The reduced mobility of the beastmen sees half of them too far away to intervene as a gutter runner dodges into the backfield and not even the extra arms of the Ravangers star player can intercept and stop the coming TD. 1 all!

With their blood all fired up the choas team set its sights on victory through a might is right approach. Swingin their armoured fists the warriors begin KO'ing every rat in their path swiftly followed by a Beastmans charge impaling a skaven thrower and ending him. With numbers dwindling fast the skaven lines come apart and the second TD is only opposed by 3 rats to 11 chaos. A bloodbath by any definition. 2-1 to the Ravangers.

The Stormclaws played a strong game but fell asunder to a horrific display of brutality on behalf of the choas team. I wish them all a speedy recovery.

Top notch report. Poor old Ronin getting the bad side of the Skaven :(

It being essentially midweek, and still no sign of Gombol, will attempt to replace with thatbloke if he's still willing.

Yeah, it was a bit harsh. I'm musing on letting journeymen take the beating on the line for next week as I'm two players short of a full roster due to a bad case of death.

I think we accounted for ourselves well, to be honest. The match could have gone a LOT worse. What we really need now is reserves!

Also, Gombol still hasn't been on so that may be the best option.

Common advice at bb tactics would be to let journeyrats take the brunt for as long as it takes so that when you buy, you buy to a roster of 12 and secure a bench. This way you don't expend money for little value, keep your TV down a bit, and gives you money if necessary to pick up a journeyman if they snag the MVP or whatever. Additionally it means money is available if one of your stormvermin acquires a bad case of the boot in snout (niggle, statdown, death).

In the CC this season the norse coach in our Div was using a roster with only 9 players in order to keep his TV down, and letting journeymen pad out his team to 11. Risky running without a bench, but he'd dropped from D1 and his TV was much higher than most of us.

I'm currently trying to kick gombol from the league and accept bloke, but the game won't let me, possibly due to the server migration bugs.

In my opinion there are 3 options

1) Bloke doesn't care and we use gombol as a bye week
2) We wait for cyanide to try and fix (posted it in the testing thread at BBT)
3) Restart the league but then carps and ronin have to play again.

Panda,

I’m generally good for a match around 13gmt. Can you do that any day excluding Sunday? If not, propose some alternative times.

Ronin's Skaven get a 2nd chance at life. Its not often that happens. I hope you treat them better this time! ;)

I doubt they can get a much worse beating! Though maybe that's tempting fate... :p

Ghostwolf: depending on what's happening on Friday evening, maybe our game is best done then. I think I'll be out Saturday evening, I'm certainly out all day Sunday (though probably back later in the evening) but then I've more flexibility next week so that'd also be possible. Thoughts?
