THN Blood Bowl League 2

"Welcome back folks to the second season of what may have been the most chaotic and iffily orgnised blood bowl league the old world may ever have seen...

Seems like there will be COMPLETE turnover this year from last season, as all those teams dissolved into insolvency due to the unpopular health care package for players enforced by the league president Mr O'Bummer. With the vast numbers of crippling injuries, all the coaches have decided it was cheaper and easier to start afresh with new talent, and avoid diva star players (those that survived) from the previous league...."

This is the official sign up thread for THN's second blood bowl league.

Now everyone has had a chance to decide if they like the game or not, and had a bit of a mess around with some different teams, we are planning on running a slightly longer league than last time.

Our plan is to have everyone in one group, and ensure that everyone plays everyone else at least once (possibly twice if there are only a few people interested).

We'll then try and have the top 4 players at the end of the league duke it out in a playoff format.

In terms of precise details, well, we'll sort that out when we know how many players we have.

Here are the salient points and questions we want to sort out:

  • As last time, the league will be orchestrated by a mixture of myself, ghostwolf and ronin, in order to reduce the workload, and ensure availability.
  • As last time, this will require a time commitment. - Typically between 1 and 2 hours each week (the length of a game). Some communication is required to organise games via THN. If you are unsure you can provide this, DON'T sign up. However, if you think about how much time you spend a week playing games in general, 1-2 hours isn't exactly a lot. Again, we will play 1 game a week.
  • We would like to have as many people as possible playing. - We aim to be inclusive. For this reason we will use whichever version of the game allows MORE people to play. Whether that is Dark Elf Edition (DE) or Legendary Edition (LE). Ideally, we would prefer to use legendary edition, due to the greater variety of races available for play, but not excluding people is preferred. If more people can take part using DE, we will not hesitate in sticking with that. It is probably worth noting, that (as far as I know, i've been out of the country) anyone who has an electronic copy of DE who purchases LE still gets 30% off on steam, or if you dl it from cyanide's site etc. - It works out the ~same or cheaper to buy DE THEN LE with discount, as to buy LE on it's own if you are considering purchasing for this league. - You then would own both games, and be flexible.
  • We will be using the cyanide league system.
  • We will all be starting new TV1000 teams
  • We would like as balanced a set of races as possible.
  • We would like to start early december, probably with a 'bye' week over christmas.

I'm sure ghostwolf and ronin will have some things to add.

Please state on this thread if you would: a) Like to play. b) Which edition(s) of the game you own. (c) If you would think about purchasing the other edition if the other one seems to be the one we will use.

Thank you. And remember, this will be a fun league again, and bob needs to get stomped...

I'm very much up for this and have both already.

As I've noticed other people playing since the last comp and I don't plan on using the mighty dwarves I expect to get well and truly stomped. So Ski will get his wish :D.

As an add on:

I had an email this morning (mass mail) from cyanide, in french. My limited knowledge of french allowed me to glean....essentially nothing from the email, but the massive bold print in the corner of -33% implied that the offer still stands.

I'd like to play though I only have Dark Elf edition and haven't played any games against humans yet. . . .

I might be willing to get Legendary Edition but seeing as I've not had the chance to play much of DE I'm not sure if I want to spend more money on it until I know how much I like the game!

I'm up for it, but only really if i can use LE edition, as my favourite teams are in it. It also adds subtle things to existing teams :)

I might have stuff to add, but it'll probably be Monday evening when I do.

Either way, I'm in for DE, or LE if that's the way we go (but I only have DE just now).

I'm in, I've got both editions.

Also note that due to how gifting works in steam, those who own DE can gift LE to others for the discounted price if anyone wants to work out a deal that way.

Maybe we should wait and see if there's a sale during the Christmas Holidays if we decide to do LE?

As someone pointed out, it costs as much to get LE on it's own as DE followed by LE at a discounted rate. Also on steam you can get someone who already has it at discount to gift you a copy.
That said, i doubt anything will start till after Christmas but i think we need an indication from people right now what they are willing/able to do.

Aye, but the discounted version is still about £20 or so isn't it? The Christmas sales on Steam tend to do very high discounts on stuff after all.

Hoy, :)

I would like to play this.

However, little Diana is due to come out from my wife insides in the first half of December. It would be silly of me to actually commit to anything regular without knowing what my life is going to be like.

So, if you're really set on still starting this year, I'm going to give it a pass. However, if things get delayed and you don't start until January, then I'll probably revisit the concept. :)

For reference, I only have DE. If there's overwhelming support in favor of LE and I knew I had time to play, then I might spring for LE, but I already bought DE on purpose for league 1, so, if I do end up actually wanting to sign up, I will be campaigning for DE.

Cheers,
J.

I have DE, I only plan on getting LE if it goes into the christmas sales on steam, Or if I somehow come into a fair bit of money allowing me to clear off certain cards o' credit :p

I'll give you a game Xar if you want to find out where you stand :)

Seems we're leaning LE which tbh surprises me slightly but as has been said whatever gets the most ppl happy/playing.

I'm in as always :) Make way for Ghostwolf67 maker of the league and loser of all things bloodbowl!

ok so my fingers just accidentally on purpose slipped and I now own LE.

Once it's downloaded I'll be up for a game or two later (likely after lunchtime later)
