[desc]The town is in a state of confusion and dismay. Is Marksman elDiablo a Seer as he claims? If he is, why is he being sent to his death? If not, death to him, evil one! Frenzied whispers run back and forth between commonfolk, town notables and even the ghosts that remain in Havenburg and few can agree on what is right or wrong this day.
Still, the votes have been cast and the law is unarguable in these circumstances; the will of the people must be carried out, trusting to their collective wisdom to shine through in the end.
Somehow it would seem fitting for one who has lived by the bow to die by the bow but none present are capable of wielding Marksman elDiablo's longbow to deliver this fitting end. Weary now, the guards resign themselves to another hanging. So much death, so much fruitless death and nothing to show for it. Still, deep in their hearts they grasp to the faint hope that this time, at last, they have chosen true and will be ridding themselves of an unspeakable evil.
Just as they did yesterday, the sling a rope over a giant branch of the oak tree and place the accused in his precarious position atop a stool, noose about his neck. The magistrate stands as if to make some proclamation, or perhaps to offer the Marksman a chance for a few last words, but the stool suddenly collapses beneath him. Snap!
Marksman elDiablo dies suddenly, an expression of both surprise and dismay across his features. So stunned, the guards take a moment to inspect the stool only to find that key struts had been sawn almost all the way through... sabotage.
Then, as they stare mystified at the sabotaged stool, lightning strikes the great oak tree, setting its top aflame. Energy writhes down the tree, enveloping Marksman elDiablo's lifeless body. Suddenly he goes rigid, his eyes snap open showing eyes of flame and his voice booms unnaturally, like thunder. "
This one was Innocent." The same words, prefixed with Marksman elDiablo's name, sear across the tree below the names of Doctor Wraith and Mayor Thatbloke.
Another innocent! Another innocent killed? Mayhaps he really was the Seer, as he claimed... but that would be too terrible to think and so the townspeople take their cowardice to their beds, too frightened to think at all.
...
The town wakes bright and early. No screams this morning. All is quiet, peaceful even.
Too quiet. Too peaceful. Like a morgue.
Those few who remain wander dazed into the town square to find the great oak tree completely burnt by the lightning that struck it the previous night, not a single leaf or piece of bark left untouched. Entirely dead.
And there, below its dead bows, three werewolves stand in broad daylight, laughing and joking with each other as they play catch with Farmhand Traxata's head.
The townspeople stand dumbfounded. The werewolves lazily turn from their game, eyes glowing like coals from the fires of Hell itself, and they begin their gleeful task of annihilating the last of the town.
There are no survivors.[/desc]
elDiablo was lynched and is now dead. The wolves kill one more innocent overnight, leaving three innocents and three wolves. So...
... That's all folks! Game over. The Wolves have won.
In closing, here are the roles that were passed out to everyone:
- Cookalarcha was Innocent
- elDiablo was Innocent and the Seer
- midgert was the Omega Wolf
- Piacular was the Alpha Wolf
- Sephiroth was the Beta Wolf
- SgtFury was Innocent and the Night Watch Captain
- Taffy was Innocent and the Occultist
- Tetsuo_Shima was Innocent
- thatbloke was Innocent and the Mayor
- Traxata was Innocent
- VibroAxe was Innocent
- waterproofbob was Innocent
- Wraith was Innocent and the Blessed One
There's a fair bit of deconstruction of the game to be done, recasting of the roles in the light of how the game changed through its life (notably the Occultist becoming redundant, and the exceptional risk to the Night Watch Captain too) and review of the rules, but I'll come back to that later.
Hope you all enjoyed. I've had many a moment chortling at the whole affair as it unfolded. Thank you all for playing!
