So, judging by the performance of the other people Ronin and I played this evening, we're going to be JUST FINE. Despite being MUCH higher level than us, we rolled the first match after some loser ragequit when I totally destroyed his initial assault. Second match was longer, but they kept throwing points at us in the form of helicopters. I gained 45 stars or something from the second match alone.

I think they suffered from a serious amount of over-specialisation. Helos followed by helos followed by... er... helos. Lack of variety really hurt them. Then just buying the biggest, heaviest tanks they could and relying on them doing everything...

Victory through variety, I think.

It's not like we haven't had loads of practice against helos...

Next time, Gadget, next time!

The game certainly steps up a notch when sneak attacks, rushes, counter-artillery and so on are realistic prospects.

Thinking on it now, I feel like those guys probably legitimately sucked at this game, despite their high level.

I never saw any recon except for Kiowas and they used nothing but helos and a bunch of blobbed heavy tanks.

Their entire strategy consisted of blobbing heavy tanks on the centre point, and moving a blob of helos around. Even in a few games vs the AI we realised blobbing was just a way to lose all your units really fast. Helicopters are especially fragile and are worth a ton of points. I noticed my IGLAs and Tunguskas were killing upwards of 3-5 helos a shot at times because they were all clustered together, and the missile dealt splash damage.

They didn't make good use of cover, their lack of ground recon allowed me to move units in and probe, then fall back when I spotted their blob. They had no recon and thus had no idea where I was and couldn't chase me. No use of infantry meant the woods were mine, all mine. No recon meant that their artillary just got spunked up the wall, shelling areas I could quickly evacuate, whereas my recon allowed me to hit them where it hurt with the Buratino. They forwent any attempt to take any of the side entrance point zones, which meant that they were taking forever to bring in reinforcements, whereas we could pull them n whenever we needed to.

Our widespread net of Tunguskas and IGLAs meant that taking out their air blob was like bursting a balloon, as they were being hit from all sides.

They were playing this game like it was Dawn of War or something.

Looks like Wargame is getting an expansion:

Note the F15's.

I feel cautious about the inclusion of fighters but they did a very good job with the rest of it so I'm quite prepared to see how they go with it. What I'd really like is more maps!

Not an expansion, sequel.

New (or atleast updated graphics engine) new textures, new models new terrain.

Also

Hills. Rather than elevated terrain.

:D

While proper hills are always welcome, they need to take a page out of WiC's book, and that of many tt wargames for dealing with fast jets. They need to hit the battlefield fast from an edge of the map and sweep through in a broadly linear fashion very rapidly. They've done a fantastic job of maintaining realism without compromising fun in the game so far, but the inclusion of jets needs to be handled with care, lest it end up shit like flyers in starcraft etc.

New free DLC: 'Commander'

Dear Wargame player !

We are very pleased to announce the imminent release of the 3rd free DLC for Wargame European Escalation: COMMANDER.

Here’s a closer look into what this new content will add to your game:

COMMANDER DLC for Wargame: European Escalation extends the conflict with brand new content.

This new DLC features “Economy,” a new game mode available in both single and multiplayer with new objectives for commanders worldwide. To earn victory in this mode, you will have to reach a certain number of Command Points before your opponents (points obtained by taking control of areas in the field). These points can also be used to deploy reinforcements, and a hard choice will quickly be imposed: continue your march toward victory or spend your points to replace your losses and defend your territory?

In addition Economy mode, two new maps (Bystrany & Thüringen Wald) are now available for Destruction, Conquest and Economy modes. On these rugged maps, hilly regions provide a serious height advantage, while ambush opportunities will keep players on their toes! For even more excitement, the map Storm Eye is now playable in Alamo mode, while the maps Fulda Gap and River of Blood are available for Conquest mode.

New patch: Fatal Error. More single player campaign I think:

Dear Commander!

We are very pleased to announce the imminent release of the 4th free DLC for Wargame European Escalation: FATAL ERROR.

Here’s a closer look into what this new content will add to your game:

The DLC Fatal Error focuses on solo play, bringing you a brand new 5-mission long Operation. This 5-missions operation is completely independent to Wargame's original campaign, and will provide you new, bigger challenges to face.

Based on an original alternate history, the Operation Fatal Error will bring you back in 1979, a time when hopes for a peaceful settlement of the East/West tensions had never seem so close… until all hopes were shattered by the Euromissiles crisis, and the discovery of a Soviet combat brigade being deployed in Cuba. Within the depths of Mount Cheyenne, home to North America's most vital command center, a tragic mistake by a maintenance technician sets the world on fire…

Yeah. I'd like to see some sort of tug-of-war mode in multiplayer, which'd be my next request from them. Something a little different to the first-past-the-post destruction mode. Still, I guess they can't neglect single player people...

Is that not what the control zones thing was?
