What to buy...

I'm on something of a tight budget. I'd love to buy loads and loads of games but I can't afford them all. I intensely dislike buying a game that turns out to be bad, however, doubly so when it means that I can't then buy another game that could actually have been good...

So, if you were in my shoes and could only buy one game between here and Christmas, which would you buy (and, preferably, why)?

  • Crysis [PC]
  • Call of Duty 4 [PC]
  • Assassin's Creed [Xbox 360]
  • Mass Effect [Xbox 360]

... or something else entirely that I've not listed above?

I almost bought Crysis over the weekend but Game's prices online and in the shop were different (shop was more expensive) and that irked me so I figured that if I wanted the game I could get it from Amazon for cheaper.

I have both a PC and an Xbox 360 and I'm just as happy with either. In fact, the 360 is slightly preferably as it gives me reason to hang out downstairs on occasion; I see my home office far too much as I work at home... ;)

Thoughts?

My vote would be Mass Effect.

Supposed to have 30 hours of gameplay in the main story alone.

having now bought COD4 and played crysis I'd have to say go for COD4, I'm half way through the sp and it is alot of fun, wouldn't advise doing it on Veteran cos that is nasty but it is still lots of fun.

Well, if you have a PC of for Crysis on high I'd probably recommend that so you can go "ooooh...". Otherwise I'd reccommend CoD4, which of course you can get for the PC or X-Box 360!

Yeah, if I was to get CoD 4 then I'd get it for the PC so I can play with the majority of other THNers.

My PC coped with the Crysis multiplayer beta just fine and with only the occasional cough on Crysis singleplayer when it all got a bit mad; well, after I stopped trying to run everything at maximum, when it ate my machine alive. ;)

Priority-wise, I'd rate it this way:

1. Call of Duty 4 (obviously)
2. Mass Effect (assuming that it is going to be mind blowing, but they said that about Oblivion and it was a bit boring. i'd wait for the review, or Piaculars review :))
3. Crysis (looks more like a technical excercise than a game, to me)
4. Assassin's Creed (meant to be a bit boring and shallow, despite the hype. I told you so!)

I'm glad to see lot's of people are buying (and enjoying!) CoD4. :) the more people buying it, the more everyone else will enjoy it, too!

Mass effect. If only for it's comparatively long play time. Otherwise I'd say assassins creed. For the others, I'd recommend the "try before you buy" option.

Having now completed COD4 sp and played a bit of mp it is great fun. I don't know a thing about console games but COD is awesome. As Tets says if you want a game that is pretty get crysis. If you want a good game with awesome gameplay get COD.

COD4 sp really isn't that good apart from a few missions imho. I wouldn't know about mp, but it certainly seems nice :)
