Battlefield 3

It's largely irrelevant how realistic it is, after all war is hell and its not fun IRL so I doubt the march towards realism will ever gain mass market appeal. However it can imply realism with graphics/sound/physics. It has jets, 64 players, seemingly brick by brick level physics for those pesky campers and their cover, what's there not to love?
The only thing I am peeved about is the fact my Core 2 Quad @ 3.4ghz probably won't keep up, and my 5870 will choke itself to death. All worrying issues.

I do feel rather like I'm missing out on the glitz that, in part, is what these games are about when I play on low settings.

Jesus, Low? Might as well play on the Console m'laddy. Though on a more serious point I couldn't live with myself knowing they made the effort to push PC gaming forward, IT FEELS DISINGENUOUS.
That said, you have to figure they're probably developing on current level hardware. Second 5870 second hand from somewhere on launch day is always an option :D

I play on what ever gives 65fps. atm its at:

High (Level of detail)
Low
Low
Low
2x AA
4x
off (having this on is madness)
off

The way i see it, its a twitch-game, and if i cant spin 220° for a headshot, whats the point really.

FYI, my computer gives 35 fps with all on high, and mid AA.

I get around 50-55 FPS on BC2 with everything ramped up to the max except AA which i believe is on 4x

Ditto for me in BC2, and my hardware is worse than Spicy's .. he gets pissed when I mention how much smoother it runs for me :p

This looks great, and I dunno what it is but I've always enjoyed playing the Battlefield series on the computer rather than console where I usually play CoD and so on, but I without a shadow of a doubt will definitely not be able to run this. It looks ridiculously slick, which usually means you need a beast of a machine to play it. Shame.

Battlefield Series games are usually markers for upgrade.
1942 came out and the Geforce 2 looked mighty tempting... and thus it came to pass.
BF2 came out and the Geforce 6600 was mighty tempting... and thus it came to pass.
BF3 comes out and the Radeon 7870 looks tempting at 250ish price, and well...
*le sigh*
EDIT - CRAZY SPECULATION ON UNRELEASED HARDWARE. Guessing the 7xxx series refresh will be august time and giving it 4 months price drop to £250

I'm still failing to understand how people can not enjoy BC2 when they enjoy BF2 so much...

It didn't feel very teamworky to me. The maps were a bit small. I thought maybe because it was because I wasn't playing with the right people but I played BF2 a few days back with a rag-tag bunch and had an amazing time.

BF2 > BC2.

The difference is as subtle as UT vs Q3. Same genre, same concept, different fans. As a UT fan I never got on with Q3, FOV felt wrong and weird and the controls felt a bit too loose.
Engine change can be everything, you can tell a source game/mod even if it was the same art assets due to the way to handles.

Yes.

And things I have learnt from this trailer:
- BF3 has lots of running.
- BF3 is over 50% running when no one is shooting at you.
- BF3 has some pulling people around (HA! Awesome...)
- When getting shot at in BF3, you shoot, and then run some more.

Still, looks pretty. Frostbite 2 looks nice (still). I see no health bar, ergo, BF:BC2 health system in play (instead of the BF2 health bar one, obviously)?

Most games have gone this route, apparently the majority prefer not dying if you hide?

I'm waiting until we see the multi-player trailer as opposed to the single player (which DICE look like they're putting effort into rather than 'here have some AI to play the multi-player with')

I used to be against the health system in BC2 but it's kind of grown on me. There's nothing worse in BF2 than falling slighly off a cliff, losing 2 health bars to succumb to one shot anywhere from a sniper rifle.

Sounds like bf2 to me.
